My first 2 thoughts

1- the buy out terms change from 2020 to 2021?

2- the guy they wanted said yes last night? Sark, well maybe

Thoughts?

Sounded like they wanted to get rid of him but wanted to make sure they had an acceptable replacement locked and loaded

Probably saved a few million firing him after 1/1 which I don’t understand why auburn wouldn’t have done that either

2. You don’t fire Herman unless his replacement says yes.

Doesn’t stop Bama from making a counter offer tho.

Personally, I think it is unprofessional to upcoming recruits. Also, you are paying regardless. So there is no money savings.

You’re missing the most important point, which is neither of the above points matter if you have a yes from the coach you want. You need to move quickly.

only 2 teams still playing so you are not technically tampering with their coaches. Could be that they were negotiating the buyout with Herman and it took a few days to get to the number all were happy with.

Maybe the AD really wanted to keep Herman and the money people pulled the trigger recently forcing the AD to cut bait.

UT officials suddenly realized that the unbridled optimism over the calendar switching from 2020 to 2021 doesn't change the fact that Tom Herman is an unmitigated disaster.

The buyout is prorated so no on #1, i.e., we're not saving much more money by today's firing than say, 3 weeks ago. Besides, this is booster money we're talking about.

He wouldn't be fired today unless his replacement was lined up. Apparently it's Sark and the only reputable Texas message board is strongly hinting at that if not outright saying it (and no it ain't Chip Brown).
