I wasn't exactly thrilled when OSU lit up Durkin's defense last year (and Minnesota and Indiana gave them fits). Michigan was a bit beat up by then, though, with a key cog out (Ryan Glasgow). Don Brown is arguably an improvement. But, Durkin can apparently recruit like crazy. It's too early to gamble on him IMO.

If he is told to stay out of it, which means he knows, then he is turning a blind eye to it. So yeah going against your boss' wishes in a rape case is no reason to stay quiet. I bet if this guy had a less than stellar record you would all be roasting him right now. Funny how football is more important.

Some of that sounds like your friends opinion thrown into the conversations to spice them up, but have nothing to do with the search firm.

So what you are saying is that LSU has hired his firm, or there are other schools gauging Jimbos interest. Jimbos agent isn't going to tell a search firm that Jimbo is just using LSU for a raise. You also mention Gundy and Briles. Again, you are telling us that LSU has hired his firm when you give us names like that.

You are telling us that Texas has already hired his search firm and Herman has made it clear that he is ready for Texas. Another thing... If Charlie Strong is set to be fired if he loses to OU this weekend, then Texas knows who they want and don't need a search firm.

I don't know why I think your guy is kinda full of shite, but I do.

never said that. nor did I imply that in any way shape or form.. that is your assumption. It is their job to have list of hot coaching commodities as well as other fields such as searching for the next great AD, presidents of universities and such. He works in the coaching/athletics dept and does research all day, finding trends, putting in numbers for their databases etc. The single most important factor in success in their data base is the ability to build a program because it requires high efficiency in multiple categories.

Again, you are telling us that LSU has hired his firm when you give us names like that.

everyone has floated their names not just search firms.. again they are going on who is the most successful in recent years. They get calls all the time from athletic directors to update their short list. Every AD has one. they get a fee for these services obviously.

then Texas knows who they want and don't need a search firm.

again it has nothing to do with the search firm, they get information and process it. The chances of Herman landing in Texas are exponentially higher than anywhere else based on the interview from a former colleague of his who is now at Tulsa.

im sure he wont, but it still doesnt stop back channels from communicating

Well, not the pissy answer I expected, so kudos for that.

I have a basic understanding of what firms do, which is where my questioning came in.
Your guy compiles lists of coaches who fit the mold that clients ask for, then will gauge interest of those targets, and maybe a little organization of needs of different party, and get paid.

Thing is, most of what you stated was conjecture on the part of your buddy.

Anyway, in the case of Herman, all it takes is to watch a couple of YouTube interviews with him and read his bio to know he went to Grad school at UT to know that he would probably lean Texas.

His group can put Briles and Gundy at the top of whatever list, but it doesn't mean they are on LSU's list at all, or that Gundy is even interested.

Idk... I'm not going to crap on you about it, since you came back with such a decent response, but I still don't believe all you wrote

Soooo, what actually happened last year with Jimbo then? Did he turn LSU down, or did LSU back off. It seems like you are saying he turned LSU down, since he is only using LSU for a raise and isn't "going anywhere".

most of the time, their list become the schools list.. thats kinda how it works..

or that Gundy is even interested.

this is one thing they def know as they are in contact with agents routinely.

I'm not going to crap on you about it,

so im suppose to say "thanks for not being an arse"?

How does the guy know that Jimbo is using LSU for a raise and is not going anywhere, but doesn't have any insight into something like that?

Tell your boy Mike to tighten up

Morris is struggling more than I expected at SMU. He has a long way to go yet. Not saying he can't get it done, just thought it would be a slam dunk and he would show some immediate signs of success.

Re the buddy at the search firm: where does PJ Fleck fall in all of this? I'm impressed at the job he has done at WMU. That's a hard place to win consistently and he's doing it

Alleva has been working on this since last year, there is no need for a search firm. Alleva is doing everything directly through his office to keep the rumors to a minimum.

FTR Alexander will not be the guy that authorized a popular figure like Les Miles being fired only to then hire a PR nightmare like Briles or Petrino. So you can get that out of your head.

LSU will not settle for a second or third tier guy unless they absolutely have to. Regardless of what Texas does or doesnt do.
