Hasn't made any great hires while at LSU. What did he do at Duke? Cutcliffe??

Gave Mainieri a raise/extenstion for flirting with Texas.
Gave Miles a raise/extension for flirting with Arkansas.

He ain't afraid to open the checkbook and pay coaches. I have faith he's doing everything in his power to get Jimbo here. Other than pandering to those guys for threatening to leave, I have no problems with how he has handled the Athletic Dept. Basketball coaches have not worked out, but overall the programs are in good shape.

So only the most significant hires he has made haven't worked out? That's not exactly a ringing endorsement.

I'm hoping for the best but expecting significantly worse.

It's a valid criticism, obviously. But overall I think the department is in really good shape. There's a lot of people that go into that, I'm sure, but as the CEO he has done a good job for us.

Not sure he hired cutcliff but he has done very well at Duke. Would t use him as a bad hire for Alleva.

If he hired Cutcliffe that is a good hire.

Torina and Julia Sell have been really good.

Alleva's first couple of football hires at Duke failed but Cutcliffe turned out to be a really good hire.

To be fair he hasn't been hiring for our best programs (besides WBasketball)

This is his first hire for Baseball or Football which are sports we can make real moves in.

He's also responsible for letting Chavis go (which was good, imo)

he was probably also responsible for Aranda.

I wouldn't say it's horrible. More of a mixed bag. Cuttcliffe and Torina have been great hires. For all his flaws, Manieri has been good to very good. He just isn't great, which is what we're used to there. But, he has also had some clunkers. There's no denying that.

Alleva is like every other athletic director, both great and horrible. Alleva led Duke to its most successful decade in school history, and top to bottom LSU's athletic department is the strongest its been since that huge 03-04 year we had.

Sure, he's made a few mediocre hires. Fargas might actually turn things around now that she can recruit. Trent was by far his worst hire. Jones is not good, but we got Jones cheap as hell, and Jones will leave the program better than he found it at least.

What some people don't understand is that every AD makes bad hires sometimes. Foley hired Muschamp AND Zook, on top of the fact Foley has never been able to make Florida relevant in WBB (citing that because of the Fargas hire).

Alleva is no Tom Jurich, but he's shown he can make big time hires at times and has done some very good things for LSU.

He was responsible for Steele, he tied miles up. Alleva is a fricking mess. TJ and JJ are also on his record.

so you have no problem giving les a blank check to do whatever he pleases, without fixing the underlying problems the program could fix for free?

Alleva played cfb and has an mba from Lehigh. He has the most intel on the program and felt like Les should have been fired last season. Why should TAF bend over once more for Les to spend even more money when he won't even fix his 50's offense or send Brisket Bradley packing?

As far as TJ and JJ are concerned-Johnson was a terrible hire, but as much as I don't like Jones, he isn't hall of fame terrible. LSU got him for 1.2 million, and he outperformed his salary. He should leave after this season, but he'll leave the program better than he got it.

what was he supposed to do at that point? Alleva was making plans to remove Miles. He couldn't extend a Chavis contract at that time. Moving on to Steele and Orgeron was a better option for the future because Steele would sign a one year deal and they could fire miles if he underperformed (although it didn't happen).

Horrible was his handling of the Duke shite that had him hanging on to that job by his nails before LSU jumped in to save his arse. Anyway, Duke is all about basketball and he had his savior already there when he got that job.

He has had one major hire to make here and he fricked that up big time.

Anyone not with major concerns over his being up to this hiring job is delusional.

Yeah, throwing more money at the problem when there are much easier and cheaper solutions is a sign of poor management.
