Sources: Alabama is expected to hire Virginia Tech wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins for the same position. Wiggins also had been in the mix for a coordinator role at Temple. I'm hearing Virginia Tech could target Jafar Williams, most recently...

Is this a good hire? I don’t know anything about the guy but I didn’t know who Gattis was either.

Ehh, he’s not the worst coach you could get. Our receivers couldn’t block, catch, or run routes and he’s not a great recruiter. Players did like him so take that for what it’s worth.

He may be back coaching RBs, his original coaching position before Memphis and Virginia Tech. Another new assistant, Charles Huff, has coached both before.

Can’t speak for his recruiting. Doesn’t seem to be the primary on many targets at VT. I know he’s from California originally and played at New Mexico. Possibly better suited to recruit the west coast. I guess it’s a wait and see.

I admit I don't know anything about this guy's coaching but I did see this so now I'm wondering about your comment that VT's receivers couldn't catch or run routes:

quote:

Wiggins spent the last three seasons at Virginia Tech. He has worked with head coach Justin Fuente for the last seven seasons, including four seasons at Memphis before that.

He helped coach the Hokies’ top two all-time leading receivers, Cam Phillips and Isaiah Ford. Three of the top four seasons in school history in receiving yards came while he coached in Blacksburg.

He also helped coach Memphis’ all-time receiving leader, Anthony Miller.

Definitely makes it easier. I was just wondering why the VT poster was running the WR coach into the ground by saying VT's receivers couldn't catch or run routes when they've had their two all-time leading WR on the team during his tenure.

They weren’t recruited by Wiggins and they were Juniors by the time he got there. Kinda of a stretch to give Wiggins a lot of credit for Ford and Phillips

And the receivers put up big numbers in Fuente's offense, not because Wiggins had some magic dust he sprinkled on upperclassmen to make them become better WRs.
