I think this is overblown...yes, Saban is a legend, but do you really think a new head coach and his staff are going to care about what a retired Saban has to say? For that matter, Saban is retired, he was probably getting burnt out himself, especially with the portal and NIL. He will enjoy his retirement or maybe take a part-time commentator gig...

The leaked audio of his exit remarks to his kids was pretty brutal. Lots of hemming and hawing and dancing around the point, I think he even cried once or twice. Doesn't seem like a trustworthy guy always jumping ship, and definitely doesn't come across as a straight shooter.

Yeah this is going to go well

I really hope DeBoer doesn't try to preach loyalty. 1 year at Fresno, 2 years at Washington. Im guessing he'll leave alabama in a heartbeat for the NFL. thats ok, karma always catches up. Im a huge UW fan, and we got lucky in a few games last year because our defense couldnt stop anyone. im curious to see how that plays in the SEC
Interesting that Washington was lucky to be there too. There was another "one lucky play" team that made it as well.

We will all be witness to what happens once the luck runs out and it will be glorious.

Grubb and Morrell are both from the Midwest, not PNW. Being from outside the Deep South hasn't seemed to stop BK, Les Miles, Saban, or Urban Meyer be effective recruiters. Don't really get this whole "one of us" attitude some people have.

These other coaches all had assistants who were great recruiters from the south. They didn’t just bring their staffs from their midwestern roots

You found out quickly that that was Saban and not Alabama.

Ask LSU fans how that works out.

It's not the head coach, it's the staff.

Kelly's from the North. Half his offensive staff (Hankton, Wilson, Davis) are from La. Just rebooted the defensive side, bringing in 4 more guys with heavy La ties. That wasn't just "improve the scheme", it was "we need better defensive recruits coming in".

I would venture to guess the other guys did a similar job of surrounding themselves with recruiters.

I can see DeBoer bringing Grubb in, he's had an elite run. But they need some guys, and it could be from other programs, that know the lay of the land. Otherwise, they could get squeezed out by competitors with better relationships. The Wall around Louisiana just got stronger, both with Kelly's hires and Saban's retirement. UGA might push them out of Georgia now, too.

Well we’ve won 10 games two years in a row? Weird flex from an Auburn fan of all people but I guess what you were trying to say is not playing defense will only get you so far.

I agree with that btw. So does 4th and 32.

You don’t agree that defense probably cost you a couple of games? I’d say it cost you at least Ole Miss.

You literally just replaced your entire defensive staff and pretty much every LSU fan on here trashed their defense. It’s not a flex. Stop being tender assed, we have enough of that from the Bama fans.

Jesus Christ.

This! The best decision for Bk was to go grab Frank Wilson and Brad Davis! Now this year the whole defensive side of the ball has been addressed as well. Kids from the south want people/coaches that can relate to them.
