I think it is a Saban rule. In order to coach for him you have pledge to finish the season.

That's rich.

I also think Kirby could use an experienced offensive coordinator with ties to the NFL.

This guy looks good in red...

So, board logic, Herman is a legend because he has one year on his own and Kirby is a complete unknown after being Sabans right hand man for YEARS.

Got it.

Say he gets that wow factor OC.. And the OC moves on to a HC position in 2 years. Then you hire another OC who's a bust, so you fire him and hire another-each one starting from scratch trying to implement their offense on a side of the ball the head coach doesn't have any real knowledge of.

Yeah, this is why Saban is shite.

is every coach Saban? Of course not! But you're painting with a pretty broad brush.

The Herman Legend has grown to extraordinarily hyperbolic levels.

You would think that this guy invented the forward pass

I doubt Smart would leave Alabama before their season was over.

I'm sure he leaves after the SECC takes a lot of work to start building a program.

While Herman probably would have been a very good hire, there's a risk there. Sure you can't really poke holes in his resume because it's solid, but hiring Herman probably means blowing up the program for a couple years until he gets guys to fit his system. He also doesn't have the recruiting ties to the southeast like Smart. Hiring Smart and we have an elite X's and O's coach who has learned under the best CEO in recent history for 8 years. It's not as much of a risk when you think about it and the way this program (other than recruiting) had been trending.

Love Herman but smart is a better fit. I assume he will keep Pruitt on staff. It will be interesting to see what he decides to do on offense. He will bring a killer instinct to uga they seemed to lack richts last few years.

Never mind, so football scoop says Pruitt won't be retained and will be heading to bama to take over as dc. Scott Cochran will come with smart.

There's a reason smart has been passed over for so many jobs in the past. He's not head coach material. UGA just fricked up big time.

I don't think he's really pursued any other head gigs

You're comparing Mack Brown to Saban?

No, he's comparing Saban to Saban. I know nobody remembers but the year we beat UGA's arse in the SECC and went on to win the BCS the first time, Saban was actually the head coach at LSU, Muschamp was the DC and Jimbo was the OC.

Legend is not the right word at all, but he has excelled at every stop under several coaches and on his own as head coach.

Kirby has excelled as Saban's defensive coordinator where everyone excels.

But I think Kirby will do well, there is just no denying he is a bit of an unknown compared to Herman.

Have any other schools ever actually tried to get or interviewed Smart to be their head coach?

And what happened to all the talk that Smart burned his bridges at UG a few years ago when he used you to get a raise at Bama?
