Seems like it unless Dabo is somewhere in there as well.

I really don't want Dabo. He's a used car salesman just like O. He rode two generational QBs (Watson and Lawrence) to NCs with the help of a great DC. Right now he's taking an extremely promising QB (DJ #2 QB class of 2020) and ruining him. If it wasn't for Venables Clemson would be near the bottom of the ACC this season.

Jimbo is recruiting Texas just fine. It’s Riley that’s losing the Texas recruiting bsttles

That likely changes once OU and TX become SEC members.

Jimbo is an incredibly safe, but uninspiring hire. To me it seems like the type of hire you make when you desperately don’t want to make a mistake, versus hiring a boom or bust coach.

Jimbo is the coach who keeps us relevant for 10 years, but probably only makes the playoff once or twice. That being said, he isn’t worth his current contract, much less the increased amount it would take to get him here. I’ve been a Napier denier this entire time, but I’d rather take a chance on him being as good as all the psychos are screaming about before giving Jimbo 10 million.

Why?

The big XII has lost its prestige and power. The SEC has become the conference that produces either the NC or at least a participant in the NC.

You either play in the SEC or in "one of the other conferences". OU and TX will use this as an extra selling point to recruits.

Playoff are probably expanding. Jimbo should have gotten in last year, and would have LSU in every year, once expanded.

Safe is good?

Safe is buying a CD. Inflation is up, markets are moving, but safe is good?

Nah man, safe doesn’t win you crap.

1) Jimbo would about the most “meh” hire we could make

2) these threads would be going A LOT different 3 weeks ago before they upset Bama

3) there is no such thing as a “done deal” in October. Handshake deals mean shite

4) A&M has more money than us. They are sacred of Texas and OU joining the SEC and likely desperate to avoid the embarrassment of getting their coach poached by a school that, in their eyes, is on the same level.

5) Due to #4, we ain’t getting Jimbo for $10 million/year. A&M would match our offer and probably throw an extra $2 million per to counter. In 2021, are we really trying to get in a bidding war with A&M to make Jimbo fricking Fisher the highest paid coach in CFB? Seriously?

6) Even if we do get Jimbo—dear God I hope it’s not him—A&M will still have to hire a coach to replace him, and they will be even more desperate. Lincoln Riley is from Texas, no? He may have turned down the LSU offer. What if he gets a call from the Aggies’ AD who says, “Hey Link, I know you’re happy in Norman, love OU, and feel a loyalty to them since they took a chance on you. And I respect the hell out of that. I do. But how does $150 million over 10 years—guaranteed—sound to you if you come take over this thing in College Station?” Would that not be tempting

7) Even if Riley would say no to them, the humiliation of losing their HC to LSU combined with that fear of UT and OU coming soon, is going to lead to desperation. They ain’t hiring Kevin Sumlin this go ‘round. They would throw enough money at some dude and then wind up with a much better coach than we’d be getting in Jimbo. And our melt if that happened would dwarf whatever melt they may potentially have if we hired Jimbo.

Vol, what I don’t understand is, back from the A&M pool party where Matthews decommitted, you were referring to Jimbo and A&M doing some real shady recruitment that was causing bad blood between us and them.

So, why would we even try to reach out to Jimbo if that bad blood is there from this recruiting cycle that was apparently “dirty beyond belief and breaking the unwritten rules”

If we take Jimbo(God I hope not), Texas A&M will hire Billy Napier the next day.

Why exactly does it seem that Aranda is not going to get much consideration? Why wouldn't he be a "Woody hire" as I've seen posted.

UT and OU have always recruited Texas. Now they will recruit LA, GA and Fla.

They would probably promote Elko.

If not, they’d probably go after Aranda or they’d overpay for a guy like Franklin.

In other words, I doubt Napier would be near the top of their list. You don’t go from paying insane money on Jimbo to a G5 maybe.

This isn’t going to happen. He didn’t take the job when it was offered to him.

Jimbo was never offered the LSU job.

Would they promote Elko? Maybe even hire Freeze?

Not so sure if they would hire Napier.
