Man, this thread DELIVERED.

As someone else pointed out, looks like it’s down to 3 guys. Stoops, Jimbo, and Aranda. Only way someone agrees to coaches staying on staff like that.

If its Stoops, I'm just hoping its not S. Carolina Spurrier.

Odd comparison to me. Spurrier was at South Carolina for over a decade, and had 3 straight 11-win seasons, with three top-10 finishes. He also made it to Atlanta another year. And just to reiterate, that was at South Carolina.

If Bob wants it bad enough, I think he would be really successful at LSU. I don't think he does though. He was pretty adamant that he had been planning his retirement, and he didn't want to die on the sidelines like his dad.

Petersen is the easier get IMO (not that it would be easy). He retired more recently than Stoops, so he may still have the itch to coach again. He obviously also has the previous relationship with Woodward. I believe he'd at least listen to an offer if it was made.

I just hope it’s not Jimbo Fisher. Not a fan at all.

Nasty rumor I heard this morning is that it’s Jimbo.

If it's Jimbo, Moffit is the coach in limbo.

Stoops was a head coach in 2020.

Petersen retired in 2019.

Probably a stupid question. But if its Stoops or Petersen, why wouldn't they just come now? Their tv contracts are beans compared to a coaches buyout and the head start for recruiting would be astronomical.

Legacy.

Would you want losses to Bama, Arky and A&M as the start of your LSU career?

We did (absolute home run) but he is backing off due to the admins pressuring him to retain 3 coaches on the current staff.

LSU admin can’t get out of their own way

If the coaching deal isn't done then none of the coaches are safe. If they get a big fish for $10M/yr they aren't going to say "...conditioned on the indefinite employment of Corey Raymond as CB coach/recruiting coordinator."

Indefinite, no, but I don't think it's exactly shocking to hear that Woodward has a hire in principle and the coach didn't decide to fire the top CB coach in the nation...

For a few games in the XFL. You know this is a ridiculous point, and taking that job is in no way comparable to taking on a major college program again.

Why would the LSU admin do this, hypothetically?

Dude, what are you talking about? You just spent the entire thread arguing Vol that he was lying about 3 assistants being retained.

Seems like he forgot to switch to his fake insider alt.

Jimbo before Tucker, Franklin, and Brady (if u want to clump him in there as a possibility)…could do worse for sure. Just feels like smoke to me. Jimbo can recruit, and he can coach, he’s proven and certainly has the Faggies on an upward trajectory. Idk pretty meh to me if Jimbo is in fact the guy.

You also know it signifies his interest in getting back into the game. He retired because he didn't want to die the way his father did, Obviously he has changed his mind by taking the Dallas job.

PLUSSSSSSS, he left OK making about $5M a year. I would imagine almost doubling that is awfully appealing. Any man with children isn't pissing that away, if offered.
