Does your AD have shoulder pads on under his suit?

Joker Phillips will make more than Sumlin next year
ETA: or maybe not. Sumlin $2 mil and Joker $1.7 mil. Sumlin will be the 13th highest paid coach in the SEC.

Les Miles and Urban Meyer were hired for less than $2M/yr. If Sumlin wins he will get paid. Blee dat
1) choose coach
2) negotiate contract
We aren't in the business of giving away money although we often appear to be

I wish someone would ask him if he's thought about keeping DeRuyter.

Sumlin sounds good and saying all the right things...this has been a good press conference for him.

I like that contract. I was fearing we'd just throw a buttload of money at him. Hopefully the negotiate a lucrative set of incentives for success and allow a large portion for staffing. I thought he handled himself really well during the PC as well. Although I was kind of fearful when he said he "gets the culture and traditions of A&M". He didn't finish off with any lame aggie stuff. He also said he was gonna taylor the O and D to the players and not the other way around which is really good.

if he can get Mike Stoops as DC, that will be big for you guys.

We went through a hell of a lot of effort to get Tim DeRuyter as DC, and he's only in his 2nd season. I'd like to keep him. If we do that and keep our current recruiting class, we'll be okay.

Deruyter's blitz happy D may work a little better against more run oriented teams. It did a decent job against Arky until our offense took its usual 3rd quarter nap. I guess the next few months will be an exciting time. I look forward to next season!

DeRuyter's defensive scheme reminds me of the Wrecking Crew in it's heyday. Unfortunately, we haven't had the right talent to run it. We've been recruiting virtually offense-only since Sherman took over.

Has sumlin addressed the offense? I assume he is bringing in all his Houston guys and will run the air raid? Or will he adjust to more of an SEC type of offense? Those offenses put waaayy too much stress on a defense.

Billy Liucci, who owns texags.com, posted before the official hire that Sumlin said that he would need a more balanced offense to be successful in the SEC. I am not one of these Liucci disciples, but he wouldn't make that up, and I will take him at his word.
In Sumlin's defense, he ran balanced offenses as OC at A&M and OU. I think that the air raid was something that he knew he could get away with in CUSA.

The top half of the SEC has the personnel to stop an air raid. I know some of the air raid is trending towards more balance, but it's still relying on finesse. A&M can recruit good players, and i think they'd be better served to dump the air raid, and build on defense and a balanced offense. Staying with the air raid would be continuing on as a B12 team, and thats not a recipe for ling term success.

We aren't running the air raid, though I'm starting to think its going to take until mid September for many of our own and other fans to realize this.

I've heard that no staff from A&M will be retained and none from UH will be moved. I suppose we'll see how far this goes but I believe it to be the best option. You get rid of the head-butting over "well this is how we used to do it".

He said his schemes will adapt to the players he has to work with. Not the other way around.
And he will bring some of his staff. Not all. Kingsbury will likely be QB coach but not OC. And we will not try and run the air raid in the SEC. Look at OU from 05-07 to get a feel for what our offense will most closely resemble
