WOT. Would the series have been better had Sanderson took over around Book5-6

I think so. The books in the middle are atrocious and some of the most boring convoluted stuff I've ever read

Books 5 and 6 are excellent, so no, not at all. 7 is solid even if it does spin it's wheels a bit. Now 8 is a big pile of meh and 9 and 10 are straight garbage, with 11 being a pile of meh as well, so maybe Sanderson could have improved those.

But the last two books that Sanderson wrote in the WOT series aren't even that amazing anyway, they were a big disappointment compared to Gathering Storm (though it's hard to say how much of that Sanderson could control since he was supposedly following a script). So I'm not sure having him do the rest would have improved anything all that much, though it probably would have cut out a couple of books of dead wood.

There is such a massive amount of extraneous bullshite in these books that I'm sure Sanderson would have streamlined them down quite a good bit.

He writes 1,200 page books. You really believe that?

Yes. Or the stuff would have been more interesting. WoT could have been told in 6 books easy

Have you read WOT?
Don’t get me wrong. Its close to my heart.

But the amount of worthless subplots, sniffs, sidetrails, worthless characters etc...

WOT could have been 8 books.

Sanderson's job was to write with the copius notes Jordan left. Jordan's last few books were more money-grabs than real story so I think if Jordan had died around book 5 (and had left all the notes he did) the series would have been shortened by at least 3 books. The remaining books would have been far more active.

Don't forget Nynaeve tugging on her hair. You could take every excerpt of her doing that and have a whole novel unto itself.

There is no way in hell it could have been 6 books. Now if you wanted to say 8ish, I could see that fairly easily once you cut out all the pointless repeating braid pulling and sideplots.

Book 1 is just so completely different than later ones for example

You are definitely right there, but that's a good thing to me. I wasn't a huge fan of book 1, it was basically a retread of other fantasy novels that had been written before. It was like Jordan was trying to mimic some other authors style and combine it with his characters and story.

I think the series really took off with book 2 when he developed more of his own style. Books 2-6 match up with almost any series IMO, even with the annoying repeating phrasing/braid pulling and pointless description that infests the series.

Eye of the World felt like I was reading the novelization of a Final Fantasy game.

I stopped reading this series over 20 years ago around book 6 and remember this vividly

He had to make his money somehow. Jordan was SJW before SJW was a thing! But they would have lost their shite at the ending though.

Something changed around the middle of book 1. The story was so slow and plodding that it took me 6 months just to force myself to get to the halfway point. From there on though, the rest of the book was hard to put down.

Since Amazon has the rights to distrubute the TV series of this now, I've thought about how they could streamline it and make it actually work for TV.

Basically:

Get rid of tons of useless subplots
No or signficantly less Seanchen
Basically no Aes Sedai POVs besides Moiraine, Egwene, Nynaeve, Elayne, and even then cut down on them drastically
Focus almost entirely on Rand, Mat, Perrin
Get rid of re-incarnated Forsaken, they die they are dead
Speed up the plot to Rand becoming DR, consolidating power, last battle
Get rid of the vast majority of the Ashaman subplot

I like this for the TV show. I think the Ashaman subplot needs to stay and could be awesome TV
