I think the overall story is going be significantly changed in season 1 in certain ways - mainly around Logain as it looks like he may be an antagonist in season 1 from the trailer.
It seems like it will also have some Mashup with book 2 whote Tower storylines.
Sanderson also compares it to the LoTR trilogy changes which seems like a good sign

Rafe said last week that season 1 will cover book 1, some of book 2 and even book 3. However some of book 1 will appear in season 2 which looks to be Elayne based on a hint he gave.

The confusing part is what will be the scene or story from book 3.
SPOILERS:
Maybe something with aeil? Or a black ajah reveal?
Been a while since I read book 3 so hard to remember what all happens on their travels to Tear

I think LOTR purists don't consider the changes minimal. The Scouring of the Shire change in particular made them foam at the mouth.
And those people are the same who are refusing to watch this adaptation. It's only the first season and I think they're already as divergent.

You can't worry about pleasing those people I don't think - if this shite lands like LOTR did I will be extremely happy.
Also I think its a really good sign the level of interest this is generating. Look like youtube reviews from non-readers are pretty positive, a lot of people intrigued. Most complaints are that it seems kind of generic and that they don't know what the story is about - hopefully the full trailer can do some more to set it apart.
As Fun Bunch said, tons of trailer views in India. I thought the below episode viewership ratings for Season 1 of Game of Thrones were interesting to note.
Episode 1.01: 2.22 million
Episode 1.02: 2.20 million
Episode 1.03: 2.44 million
Episode 1.04: 2.45 million
Episode 1.05: 2.58 million
Episode 1.06: 2.44 million
Episode 1.07: 2.40 million
Episode 1.08: 2.72 million
Episode 1.09: 2.66 million
Episode 1.10: 3.04 million
Some cursory glances showed 6-7 million for Season 4 premier and almost 9 million for Season 6 premier.
I don't know how GoT did internationally but I think the diversity in the cast and highlighting the women in the first trailer has definitely helped garner a wide range of interest.

GOT did not have a huge audience early on. It built on itself every year. The Red Wedding turned the show into a cultural phenomenon, which every book reader knew it would.
Looks like the views on the trailer are starting to slow down a bit at least domestically, might cap out at around 12ish before the full trailer comes out, which would still be excellent.

They are doing an in person New York Comic Con panel with some of the cast and Rafe etc. October 8th.
That's when I would expect the Full Trailer to come out.

It had pretty steady increases with each season generating more new viewers than the last

Pretty awesome couple months coming up. Dune in October, Foundation and Wheel of Time both in September I think.
ETA: Also, I check out the M/TV board thread on the trailer - I'm hoping the show discussion on this board can avoid the constant woke complaining that seems to permeate the discussion on that board. I like our discussion crew we have had on here over last couple years. Even if it does trend that way (which at this point would surprise me), I'm still gonna watch and enjoy it dammit.
Really the whole shift in the online community is going to be pretty jarring in the next few months. Right now, its overall pretty solid discussion of pros and cons / like and dislikes on the series.
Definitely going to get flooded with internet trolls and haters just looking to rain on the parade soon haha.

Interestingly, the past 24 hours or so there seems to be a small shift in focus to the 3 boys in some blurbs and on the WoT account.
I wonder if this was the plan after the teaser that seemed to focus on Egwene, or a recalibration so as not to piss people off that are expecting Muh Girl Power and get Straight White Male Messiah.

I think I may need to go on a media blackout for the TV series until it launches. All of the commentary is just souring my thoughts on it. I know I'll watch the debut regardless of whatever news is posted about it.

Feel like that was probably the plan. My guess is they divided up the trailers based on who to highlight and tried to segment it in a way that made each trailer seem cohesive

Season 2 news.
There's been very little in the way of leaks but WotSeries had a new story up today.
They are likely doing some filming in Puglia, Italy and in Croatia. Those seem like perfect Falme locations to me.
Couple of questions for the followers here:
1) Should we start a new thread following Season 2 production or just keep this one going?
2) Should we have a Non-Book Spoilers Thread on the M/TV Board and then a Book Spoilers Thread on here, or on the M/TV Board as well? How do you think we should handle that sort of thing?

I feel like we can keep this one going - sort of all inclusive general discussion in here is fine for now with show theories, critiques, production news, etc. since we have pretty low traffic.
Probably should have a spoilers thread on there as well, they get more traffic and I'm sure people would prefer to discuss over there. If it was me, at this point I'd keep it to early season spoilers only so people just picking up the books to get ready for the show can participate.
Once people get towards the end they may gravitate over here for an entire series spoilers, differences with show, new show theories based on full series knowledge, lore, etc. type discussion.
That said, I am biased since I like our kind of chill and reasonable vibe over here so that is influencing my opinion - whatever people want to do, I'm happy to see a whole new group of fans find out about this thing I've been obsessed with for 20 years.
Probably will end up needing 3 threads though since a lot will just be picking up the books and will take a while to get through all 14.

Foundation Trailer
I was watching this trailer where they have I guess the showrunner talking about the story. Do you think something like this may be good for wheel of time? Help set the context a little more for those not familiar withe story.
I've seen a lot of comments saying that the trailer looked really good but that it came off as a little generic

I think they have to lay out the story a lot better in the Main Trailer and establish what sets it apart.

So uhhhhh
They recast Mat for Season 2. That’s…not good.

Ya, definitely a couple of things that have upped my level of concern.
Posted on 9/21/21 at 3:22 pm to Sneaky__Sally
Ok, i'm slightly less sky is falling now that I have had some time to process - still concerning though.

I partially rescind my stated displeasure with the appearance of the myrddraal.
I reeread the first book on vacation last week, and came across this description:
So, the pale-ness is correct, described by coloration, at least, as slug/grubby, but otherwise the facial proportions and movement should be more or less human-like. I think they over-played the "grub" look.
I hope the clip shown is just a shot of a fade screaming, and not indicative of it's resting appearance.
I would not consider such a change deal-breaking heresy, from a nerd-boy-super-fan point of view, barely annoying. Gotta justify that CGI budget.
May our future discussions revolve around such frivolous concerns. . .

Thin, bloodless lips curved in a cruel smile, made more mocking by the smooth, pale skin where eyes should have been"
