Shattered Sword: the untold story of the battle of Midway.
By Jonathan Parshall and Anthony Tully.
Basically the Battle of Midway from the Japanese perspective quite different than what the popular notions and is a very good read.

After one read it instantly became a top 3 fiction book of all time for me. Right there with To Kill a Mockingbird and Huck Finn. So freaking good.

Started Red Rising today. I have never read anything like it. Is this considered Sci Fi or dystopian??
I usually read Tom Clancy and thrillers and some Non Fiction
But wanted to get into a series.

Sci FI. You get more of the Sci Fi feel in the second book imo.

Interesting non-fiction (maybe!) account regarding Crew #8 of the sixteen plane Doolittle Raid over Japan in 1942. Of the sixteen planes that took off from the Hornet, fifteen crash-landed or were ditched in China. Plane #8 opted to fly to the Soviet Union and landed safely at a Soviet airbase. The B-25 Mitchell bomber was confiscated by the Soviets, and the crew was interned for over a year.
This book explores the possible reasons for the captain's decision to divert his plane to Soviet Union territory.

I just finished Vanishing Act and have started
This book is a comprehensive report of the execution of three of the Doolittle Raiders by the Japanese for war crimes.

Read Our Man in Tokyo by Steve Kemper the story of Joseph Clark Grew our ambassador to Japan for most of the 1930’s and the lead up to war. Kemper impressed me enough to read another of his books A Splendid Savage, the biography of Frederick Russell Burnham who I can tell you is one of the most amazing Americans who ever lived. Highly recommend both books.

Finished Alloy of Law and started Shadows of Self yesterday. Took me a minute to get in to it but I'm hooking now. I guess I was burnt out on Sanderson and needed a break.

Finished up that one and can’t wait for the 3rd one in October.
Really enjoyed the character build up so far.

Almost done with the first one and have been impressed with the depth of the story.
The author seems to have thought out the (imaginary) scenario through pretty well and all implications/angles/history/logistics are very intriguing.
I would agree that it is better than ring of fire.
Thx for the rec!
