While nothing official, it looks like there is a good chance the show will premier tonight. Was anyone else expecting that? I was assuming Friday evening, maybe midnight.

From what I've gathered, Amazon usually releases new shows at midnight GMT which would be 8PM EST (DST) the day before.

This countdown timer (that shows 8PM EST today) is linked on the official Amazon AUS instagram page:

Hmm. I had plans to go out this evening; think I'm going to order in instead.

Yeah, I think most expected it to be tonight for us Americans.

My wife is just going to have to get over it... I'm watching.

frick I'm on the road for work with just a computer - think I'm gonna hold off and avoid the internet discussion until I can get in front of a good TV and sound system

I… liked it… but was fairly disappointed with the pacing and character changes. Mat was way too serious with the sisters and Perrin’s wife wasn’t very necessary.

The series has a built in base. You don’t have to rush and have that climax in the first episode.

That being said… trolloc attack was fantastic and loved it. That was exactly how I pictured it.

Just started and I knew it was coming but to actually see Moiraine say we don't know if the dragon was reborn "as a boy or a girl" in the first 10 seconds bothered me. If the Dragon could be a woman why are all channelers not hunted down and killed? It doesn't make any sense within the context of the story.

My boys and I just watched the first, will wait to watch others. Homework

They kept pausing it to gripe, and not in the fun "wow that's kind of different from the books" way, but the "wtf. . . why?" way.

Mat a thieving gambling addict? Abell a letch and Natti (had to look up Mat's Mom's name) a broken drunk? Perrin married? and kills his own wife? Rand and Egwene in a physical relationship, and with the tacit approval of the TR elders? Narg can't talk?

The presentation was pretty good, but I barely recognized the story/characters. The real thing would have been so glorious with these production values.

I honestly don’t have a problem with any of that.

Just finished episode one and it is definitely different than the books but it wasn't bad. I've already come to terms with it being different than the books. As Sanderson has said, it's a different turning of the wheel.

My only gripes are the dragon can be reborn as a girl or boy, Perrin's wife who was useless, and not starting with Lew's Theron Telamon and Ishamael.

Definitely more pros than cons in the first episode.

Mat is supposed to be a playful rogue with a deeply buried heart of gold.

I honestly can't imagine the motivation of changing the fundamental essence of most readers' eventual favorite character.

or having it not bother a fan of the books.

ETA: agreed, talkin Narg? silly and out-of-place, even in the books. I was serious about the other stuff, though

Did anyone else have a hard time understanding the dialogue in places?

Was it the background noise/music that overpowered a lot of it? Even my boys with young ears had to rewind a few times.

I always use subtitles so no.

In episode 2 a White Cloak told Moiraine to find an Aes Sedai in Whitebridge to heal a wound she has. Not only is that completely against everything White Cloaks stand for he did it in front of Valda. What is going on in this show.

Did I just see it wrong, or did Morraine take a hurled sword/knife through the chest, pull it out, and just keep going?

She seemed more affected by the healing of Tam.

Just finished all three. Better than I was expecting so far. I just don’t understand the need for Perrin to be married then kill her off.

I just finished the first 3 as well, was prepared for the departures from the books and overall enjoyed it quite a lot.

Loved:
Scenery
Trollocs
Fade (can't wait for shadow teleporting, etc)
Actors did a good job all around I thought
Dream sequences / forsaken
Shadar Logoth / Mashadar

Obviously I wish they had made a scene by scene recreation of the books - but that would require probably 10x the amount of episodes. I'm guessing the character origin story changes they've done and the cuts they've made were due to having to rush to get things moving and split everyone up. I hope they are able to slow down some and really hope that they stay true to the major storylines.

I want to see more. I've read the books multiple times (started with the first when I was 10) and despite the changes it was great to see the overall story from the book finally getting a AAA type production

Pretty much all this. I thought it worked really well in spite of the obvious issues with pacing and having to rush through things with only 8 episodes. Kind of an underrated point to remember since GOT early seasons had 10 each.

Ended strong with ep 3 which I probably enjoyed the most.

Nynaeve, Rand and Egwene were all on point character-wise.

Perrin and the wife thing actually worked ok, it adds to his push/pull relationship with violence.

Will have much more to say later.
