I just can't make myself pull the trigger on this. Just seems too wacky/comedic. It seems like literally everyone loves it but I just feel like I wouldn't for some reason. Never was an RPG game player as well, not sure if that even matters

I was pretty opposed to it as well, because the whole LitRPG genre sounded dumb to me. Don't let it dissuade you from the series, it's really good and pretty seriously good writing as well.

I mean, if you absolutely hate reading anything funny, then it might not be for you... but it's pretty great.

It is incredibly wacky and comedic. If you have Spotify, I would recommend giving the audiobook a shot since it is included in the premium subscription. It doesn’t take long to get started, so you will know pretty quickly if you’ll like it.

DCC is extremely wacky/comedy, but it also has a seriously good story that has a lot of heart too. Itd be like if you combined Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy with a good dystopian sci-fi (maybe like the long walk or the running man by Stephen King).

It's an extremely unique series that's hard to compare to anything else. Being an RPG fan might enhance your experience, but it's not integral to enjoying the story in any way.

I will say you'll know without a doubt with one book if you'll like the series, and if you like the first you'll definitely like the rest.

Picked this book up this past weekend because of this thread. I'm only a few chapters in, and its interesting so far.

I wasn't sure what LitRPG was. I thought maybe there was some reader input like a Choose Your Own Adventure book.

But its really just a novel and the characters have stats like in a Dungeons and Dragons game. Like reading Ready Player One in a way.

I really enjoyed the first DCC book. Its wacky, and funny. But still a solid sci fi/fantasy read.

I just know that if I'm ever in that situation, I will use the provided bathrooms and never ever piss on the wall in a hallway.

Felt the same way, was having a hard time finding a book so gave it a try. Absolutely loved it

I couldn’t finish it . I’m know I’m one of the minority disliking this book. All the level up crap turned me off. Everyone else seems to love it. Just not my thing.

Any reason you picked this series over the others that he’s written?

A combination of the discussion a few pages back and the dragon on the cover making it look badass. Audible has been recommending it for months now so I figured it was finally time to try it.

The Bloodsworn is a great series.

He’s become one of my favorite fantasy authors

I took a break in the middle of the Farseer trilogy to read some other stuff because it was a struggle to read. So dang slow for a fantasy series. Was really surprised how slow given how much it's well loved.

Finally, after 1.5 books something interesting is finally starting to happen. I'm not a DNF book guy but I was close to giving up.

It's definitely a slow burn, particularly the first fitz trilogy. The rain wild/ship books are a bit quicker paced in terms of action.

I enjoyed all of the books in that world a good bit, but the slower action definitely keeps the series out of my elite tier.

I'm about halfway through Library at Mount Char, and this book keeps on throwing curveballs at me. I just finished the chapter with Steve, the lions, the dogs, and the Indian cab driver.

Just finished book 1 today. There was a voice in my thought-cage that kept wondering where this was all going, but it picked up in the last 25% or so and now I’m looking forward to book 2.

Have any of you read the Legends of the First Empire - Age of Myth books? I did the audiobooks for Riryia back in the day.

I have. They were great. Rise and Fall as well. Although Hadrian and Royce are great, the general writing is better in his later titles IMHO.

Know it’s been discussed on here multiple times but just finished reread of Lightbringer the most recent Red Rising. It hurts going back to Suneater with how good Red Rising is. That book just crushes you. frick man.

Didn't realize the other books she wrote were in the same universe and that there are more Fitz stories.

Despite the slow burn, I do like Fitz as a main protagonist. He's a pretty good character.

Seeing the cover of the third book kind of blew me away. It's a girl riding a dragon. There is such minimal fantasy in this and honestly no "main" female character, I would have never in a million years guess at this point (1.75 books in) that there would be a girl riding a dragon in book three

That's honestly why she's so well thought of overall, her ability to write good characters really is top notch.

And yeah, there are three Fitz trilogies total, along with the liveship traders trilogy and Rain wilds (quartet I think?) books that are set in the same world in a slightly different area.

And yeah, the first couple books don't have a ton of fantasy, but the liveship and rain wilds books have a lot more, and the last of the first fitz trilogy has much more than the first two, particularly towards the end. The skill plays a much larger role in the last book on multiple levels.

The liveship books are probably my favorite of hers just because they are a bit quicker paced.
