We accept all opinions on the Red Rising series, as long as they range from positive to overwhelmingly positive.

That's what I've noticed. And it's the same on FB. My buddy who is a huge Red Rising fan commented that Brown doesn't do a great job at updated fans like Sanderson does on someone's FB post in a RR group and this like 60 year old lady just went off on him roasting him

I am 50% through Library at Mount Char. I mean this in the best way possible - it is one of the strangest books I have ever read.

Mrs. Iwy is about 60 pages in. Last night she basically said the same thing. She was like it's so weird I want to keep reading based on that alone.

Should be picking up for you right about now. Once Erwin and Steve get involved more it gets pretty good.

I finished it this morning. The last half was hard to put down. Only problem is I don’t know how to describe it to my friends to get them to read it

Yea man I burned through the last half of that book. I didn't know how to describe it either so that's why I just said on here that it stuck with me for days and was creepy and unique and weird and fun. But have no idea how to explain the plot

***spoilers***

Mrs. Iwy is at the part where Steve is shooting the dogs and the taxi driver is about to show up. I don't know why but the part with the taxi driver cracked me up so much. Imagine being that taxi driver

One of my favorite parts was the sting operation and them up there watching on the hill watching everything go down. Just very intense.

Some good twists at the end too. Crazy way to punish Daniel. Just kept him in some form of pain bubble or something? Don't know how to describe it. Pretty cool background story too with "father" and how Steve was the childhood friend.

A lot to take in in such a small book.

I really enjoyed Library on Mount Char as well. Kind of Carl Hiaasen meets Neil Gaiman.

It whetted my appetite for more "elevated" fiction, and I saw The Buffalo Hunter Hunter come up in a best of list. It's historical horror/fantasy I guess, but I'm really digging it.

Just finished Malice (book 1 of The Faithful and the Fallen). Throughout most the book i thought it was a typical good vs evil run of the mill fantasy novel, but my god those last 100 pages. It takes off at a break neck pace towards the end and really gets good as alliances and identities are revealed. Can't wait to start book 2 tomorrow

Pretty much my exact experience. Thought it was typical fantasy and was enjoying it. Then it got interesting and took some turns with characters. The rest of the series continues.

One of my favorite fantasy series. It’s been a few years but I think book 2 was my favorite.

Also just finished his Bloodsworn trilogy which was fantastic.

While there is nothing really soecial or unique about the world the story is in, his character development and battle scenes are as good as any.

Halfway into book one of the Farseer trilogy. Was debating on starting one of Gwynne's series but Assassins Apprentice has been on my TBR list for a while. Glad I pulled the trigger on it, enjoying it pretty good so far.

One of my favorite series. I read it for the first time a couple years ago and I really wish I could experience it for the first time again.

How does the first book compare to the other two?

I have about 50 pages left in the first book and I'm really enjoying it but I can't help but think that there really hasn't been much that has happened this entire book I get the feeling that this is almost like the prequel to the actual story, just setting up the main story, but there is actually very little stuff that makes it feel like a fantasy. Other than Fitz bonding with the dogs and seeing some of the Farseer traits, there's not a lot of fantasy going on.

This is not me knocking the book because I am going straight into book two as soon as I finish book one, but that was something I was thinking of when I put the book down last night. I like her writing style too.

Another random thought was outside of the first book of A Court of Thornes and Roses I think this is the first fantasy novel I've read by a female.

I've finished Carl 1-7, so I've moved back to the Riyria series. Hasn't been quite top level yet, but it's just so consistently good that I regret not reading this before now.

Yeah, can't say I've read a ton of females in the genre comparably either, she's very solid though and not pseudo romance schlock like the court of roses stuff (from what I've heard anyway, haven't read it).

Pretty much all the Eldering/rain wild series books are at least pretty solid. Stay far away from the Soldier Son trilogy series though, that series is horrid.

Fonda Lee's jade bone series, ML Wang's Sword of Kaigen, Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga, and NK Jemison's Broken Earth trilogy are all outstanding fantasy/sci fi from female authors though if you are looking to expand your female author reading

Listened to the first three Murderbot books on Audible. Have to say, I was slightly let down. Especially given how much Mrs. Iwy liked them. I have a few complaints about the show but honestly, overall, I enjoyed the show better. I have a hard time with Audible so that doesn't help but it just didn't hold my attention that well and the comedic side of it didn't come off as well as the show. Going to wait to finish the books until the show catches up because I will %100 forget everything by the time the show airs new seasons.

Though I think it was maybe you on the m/tv board that said you enjoyed books 4 and 5 better? Someone did.

Yeah, that was me. The second was by far the worst of the series to me, I thought 3 was an improvement but not as good as the 1st one. Books 4 and 5 are by far the best books in the series I've read (I haven't read the 7th yet), particularly 5.

Can't comment on the audible version, but the snarky humor comes off well in print. I don't consider the books amazing in general, just fun quick reads. But 4 and 5 are very good, the pace and story are much better in those two , with much higher stakes and action.
