In this order:

Lonesome Dove

Dead Man's Walk

Comanche Moon

Streets of Laredo

Dead Man's Walk is the first in the Lonesome Dove series. Shouldn't it be read first? According to you, Lonesome Dove should be read before Dead Man's Walk. Was this a typo?

Comanche Moon is before Lonesome Dove too.

I read Lonesome Dove and it was one of the best books I’d ever read. I planned on reading the sequel but then I learned that Pea Eye married Lorie. I immediately had no interest in it. How could anyone who read Lonesome Dove believe for a second that Pea Eye and Lorie would end up together

If not mentioned. Cormac McCathy's blood meridian is pretty heavy.

Two works of his you may be aware of are no country for old men and the road. .

Agree with the listed order.
Lonesome Dove should be read first. It is the pinnacle of character arc for the main characters.
Dead Man's Walk and Comanche Moon should be read as prequels. They add to the depth and background of the main book in the series, LD.
Didn't make it that far into Streets of Laredo. Hard to read a book in this series that is without one of its most important characters (I got fussed at for spoilers in a different LD related thread where I named who I'm talking about).

If you liked L'Amour, ever tried any Giles Lutz?

I randomly picked up The Honyocker by him and enjoyed it. It's pretty compact like a lot of paperpack novels were, but its has a crisp clean writing style I like. Gets the classic "ranch romance" and shootout in town covered without wasting any pages.

McMurtry's Berrybender Narratives are good too. Quirky like LD. Tasmin Berrybender is another fantastically memorable character by McMurtry. She ain't Gus but who is?

Because no one would ever compare to that other character she loved.

Have you read Empire of the Summer Moon?

If not, it's a must. Rise and fall of the Comanches; damn book had me driving all over the southwest exploring the key settings.

You might want to check out the movie version directed by Howard Hawks, with a great performance by Arthur Hunnicutt as ole Zeb (Oscar nomination).
