I was able to pick up The Hatchet today at a used bookstore in town(Lafayette). When I showed it to my older son, he couldn’t say enough about it! I was unaware he had read it for school in 7th grade a couple of years ago. He went on and on about how each chapter was exciting and interesting. He’s sure his little bro will like it, so thanks for the recommendation. While I was there, I picked up the first two Harry Potter books and another book entitled “Museum of Thieves”.
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I’m going to buy the Percy Jackson books online, and I’ve downloaded the first two in the “Mossflower” series by Jacques. So I think I’ve got plenty for my 10 year old

Nice work, sounds like he has a lot of great reading material coming up. I'm kinda jealous, a couple months of being able to run through books all day sounds kinda of nice.

Since my OP, I’m now reading “Mossflower” for myself and I like it a lot thus far.

In addition to the previous suggestions, I would add the Artemis Fowl series.

Halo - Fall of Reach, Eric Nylund.

Trust me it's an easy read. GREAT story. Not hardcore in terms of content.

I really liked Onion John at that age. It’s about a twelve year old boy who befriends an immigrant handyman. Don’t remember much about about the story, but it’s one of the first books that I have an emotional memory of. Idyllic Midwestern setting

I absolutely loved the Percy Jackson series when I was younger. Also, some of the classics such as: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter

10 year old me would be loving all the reading and playing outside time.

I'll throw in a few of my favorites from around that age:
House of the Scorpion
The Book Thief
Series of Unfortunate Events series
Any Carl Deuker book if he likes sports (Painting the black, heart of a champion, night hoops, etc.)
Among the Hidden series
Also recommend Artemis Fowl like others

Not sure if you'll find this too simple for what you're looking for, but I'm 33 and still occasionally go back and read this because it cracks me up.
