Patrick Rothfuss' editor: "I've never seen a word of Book 3"

She said this in a Facebook post talking about editors and writers.
She is referring to Doors of Stone, the long awaited 3rd book in the Kingkiller Chronicles.
I think it is safe to say, if his editor hasn't seen it, we are years away...still.

I don't know who I hate more, Fatman or Rothfuss.
ASOIAF was my first deep dive into fantasy and I loved Game of Thrones (until I didn't), but I've essentially given up on Winds of Winter.
I've read Kingkiller way more recently, but even that wouldn't be considered "recent" anymore.

They are both the Fat Man as far as I'm concerned.
And, as I always say, frick the Fat Man.
I'm way more interested in A Song of Ice and Fire to conclude than I am about Rothfuss' Kingkiller literary-masturbation.

I bought the other 2 books on word of mouth but haven't read them waiting on a definitive date for book 3. It's been 4 years and they just sit on the shelf.

We all knew he was full of shite.
At this point, he should just let Sanderson finish it for him.

Let Sanderson work on finishing his stuff.
I never picked up Rothfuss cause of all the talk about how he was never going to finish it. But the main thing i keep hearing about is how great the prose is, etc.
Is the story itself really good too? Still can't decide if I want to get around to reading Name of the Wind or not

Sanderson could probably finish lazy arse Pat’s book in a few months with some notes.
anyway. The first piece is maybe a master piece. Really good, gripping story.
Book two is about half of a great story that lingers far too damn long on literal self-masturbation fairy smut.
Disappointing.

Not enough fairy porn.

When NotW first came out didn't Rothfuss claim that the entire trilogy was already complete and in the hands of the editors? (Maybe I'm thinking of a different writer.)

too busy writing fairy porn fanfic

The guy allegedly went into a deep mental health episode and couldn't write for over a year, at least, after Trump got elected.
Think about that.
Think about that.

So who had bigger TDS, Rothfuss or Lynch?
Will we ever see either series completed? My guess is no

The story and characters are pretty run of the mill. It's just your typical poor boy orphan who is super talented, goes to school and faces struggles and is picked on that has been done a bazillion times.
And if you think Fitz and Molly are annoying in those books, holy crap, wait until you get a load of Kvothe and his love interest.
The two main things it has going for it is the prose, and the fact the story is being told from the point of view of an unreliable narrator, which makes things a little more interesting. The prose is phenomenal though.
Outside of the fact the second book is garbage, the worst part is that even if he finishes Doors of Stone it won't really finish the series in a satisfactory way, the whole first trilogy is basically a backstory prequel that solves nothing with the main bad guys.
I mean in and of itself the name of the wind is very much worth reading, but unlike say lies of Locke lamora it doesn't really work as a stand alone.

Name of the wind was one of the best fantasy openers I’ve ever read. The second book dropped off HARD though.

Lies of Locke Lamora is one of my favorites but I’ve never been able to get into any of the sequels. Lies is damn near perfect though.

I thought the 2nd one was the same level - didn't like the 3rd one as much

I never finished red skies. Just couldn’t get it into it. I’ve restarted it several times until I finally said frick it Lies is good enough for me

Red Seas Under Red Skies was definitely a huge drop after Lies. The book didn’t really know what it wanted to be. A heist or a pirate book??? Pick one.
That said I thought Republic of Thieves got the story back on track and the ending left me hungry for the next book.
Too bad I’ll never get it.
Anyway, if Lynch ever gets the next book out, I’d definitely recommend picking the series back up. If he doesn’t, there isn’t any point reading anything after Lies, which is great as a stand alone story.
Red Seas can work as a hit if a stand alone or sequel to the first book too, but admittedly it wasn’t very good.
