On the last book of Wheel of Time. Need recomendations

Ugh...just finished book 1 of WOT and that seems so far away. It was good - though I hear (and hope) that 2-6 or so is better). Taking a break though as I won't be able to go straight through that many books in a row.

Malazan Book of the Fallen is always my first recommendation for people who are into fantasy series.

OP I enjoyed the hell out of the first law series by Joe Abercrombie

I read the first WOT and liked it ok but just couldn't get into book #2.

If you are looking at something comparable to WOT in terms of overall scope of world building and high magic fantasy, as Sally said Erikson's Malazan series would be your best bet. But it's very much a love it or hate it series for most. I would suggest starting with the second book in the series (you won't spoil anything from book 1 except that 3 characters live into the second book, and the first book can be very awkward to get into). If you like book 2 go back and read #1 before heading to #3. Book 2 is one of the best books in the series, so if you don't like that one then Malazan is not for you.

I'd also recommend The faithful and the fallen series by Jon Gwynne, it's also somewhat similar in style.

Michael J Sullivan's Riyria books are also excellent.

If you are looking for something more gritty and lower magic then Joe Abercrombie's First Law series and other books in the same world as mentioned are excellent too.

Ya, I haven't found much comparable world-building series with the same scope. Is The Faithful and The Fallen similar to those two - haven't read that one.

Have also considered digging in to some of Sanderson's work, but haven't gotten around to it. I haven't been reading enough lately, need to get back into the swing.

I really really Liked Lies of Locke Lamora (Btw that might be the best title ever) but I couldn't get into the second book. That first one is one of my favorites and I feel it stands on it's own well.
