Just some light listening, or a full on jump off the deep end kinda thing?

I've been listening to the "History of WWII" podcast by Ray Harris, Jr., which is amazing. I think it's been going for a few years now, and they only recently hit American involvement I only recently started and am still pre-war.

Super in depth, and the guy has a great voice.

Totally not a book though.

Not an “audiobook” as much as a podcast series. But hardcore history series on the ostfront is really good. Like really really good.

Really really really really good.

Winston Churchill’s Second World War book series is also solid. Very very very long. Super in depth. Silent victory is a good 2 book series about the sub war with Japan.

Don’t know if either are these are in audiobooks though....

I’m currently listening to “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich”. It will take you over a day to finish it though. It is very thorough and it’s insane how much we know about the Nazis compared to other evil regimes.

If you're a Prime member, audible has Fighter Pilot and A Higher Call on their Dramatic History channel. Both are outstanding.

One follows Robin Olds, an ace fighter pilot for the US who flew in WW2 and Vietnam.

The other follows Franz Stigler and his career as a German Luftwaffe ace and his fateful encounter with Charlie Brown, an American bomber pilot, out over the Channel.

Both are just fascinating damn stories.

There's actually a good reason behind this - and this reason should be enough to shut down most Holocaust-deniers - the Nazis (frankly, Germans, generally) were obsessive, meticulous record keepers. The Allies occupied Germany pretty thoroughly.

So, that's the reason.

I read with the old breed and helmet for my pillow after The Pacific series aired on HBO. Great books with a lot of vivid detail. So glad I am alive now and not a 20 y/o kid living through that. Thanks to those men for their service and sacrifice!

The Story of World War 2 by Donald Miller - great overview of the entire war

Panzer Commander by Hans Von Luck - an amazing story by a bad arse German officer

Utmost Savagery: The Three Days of Tarawa by Col. Joseph Alexander

Hell in the Pacific: A Marine Rifleman's Journey from Guadalcanal to Peleliu by Jim McEnery

Anything from Robert Leckie or Stephen Ambrose.

These are my favorites by there are many more when you ready ;)

Winds of War and War and Remembrance are like 50 hours and are pretty compelling/entertaining WWII historical fiction. They're very broad in that they cover a lot of fronts (used generally) progressing over a pretty prolonged period.

As I recall it was very Naval-centric which up to that point was never my WWII focus (so it was somewhat educational for me in many ways and spawned interest in more specific events/topics).
