Went a couple of weeks ago and finally read Ready Player One.

So, anything fantasy, Sci-fi, with some mystery/adventure in it maybe. No War and Peace, just something kinda fun.

Suggestions?

If you haven't read it, Andromeda Strain.

Many suggestions.

Ender's Game
Red Rising
Promise of Blood
Blood Song
The Lies of Locke Lamora
The Way of Shadows
The Black Prism
The Black Company
The Way of Kings
The Name of the Wind
A Game of Thrones
Mistborn
The Blade Itself
Half a King
The Waking Fire
The Three Body Problem
Wool

Others would suggest books by Michael J. Sullivan, Jim Butcher, Peter V. Brett and Steven Erickson.

Could also go with the Drizzt, Elric, or Earthsea books. And of course LOTR.

Delve into The Last Kingdom author, Bernard Cornwell. He writes historical fiction. His novels are easy reads and excellently written.

You can start with The Last Kingdom series, or his take on King Arthur, which is a 3 book series. Or Go for Agincourt if you want a stand alone novel.

If you're looking for funny, no-brainer, easy to read while drinking beer at the beach books, check out Tim Dorsey. He has about 20 novels all set in Florida and primarily centered around the activities of a lovable serial killer who is also a Florida history fanatic. They're perfect beach books. I believe the first is titled "Hammerhead Ranch Motel".

It looks like "Florida Road Kill" is the first book of this series. Going to check them out this weekend.

Go to Dorsey' website, timdorsey.com

I think you're probably correct that Florida Roadkill is the first book. You can verify on the website. It lists the books by order of release and by chronology, so you can read them either way. They were written mostly in order, but a couple are prequels.

I think the books are very funny, but there's quite a bit of dark humor involved. Dorsey makes fun of crime, tourism, political corruption, snowbirds, overbuilding and just about everything else Florida is famous for.

In that same genre, Carl Hiaasen is also good.

I also like reading David Sedaris at the beach. His books are all essays though, not novels. But easy, light hearted stuff mostly.

I remember Naked and Barrel Fever as being very funny. I also enjoyed Me Talk Pretty Someday.

I haven't read any of Carl Hiaasen's books yet. I'll have to fix that.
