I watched season one of the house of dragons and really liked it.

I started reading ASOIF but was well into the tv series at that time and then the series ended on a bad note+George will never finish the books made me lose interest.

Watching this renewed my interest in the world and I figure even if he doesn’t finish the second volume I still can get ahead of the tv series so it won’t kill my interest if they can’t keep up the quality.

Anyways back to the original point how is it?

I’ve seen mixed reviews of the book. Some say good some say it’s like reading homework

As much as the dude pisses me off by not finishing the main story, I just can't get enough of the world he created. So, if you love ASOIAF world and lore, I think it's a good read. It does read like a history text book, though. Also, the show is only one portion of the book.

One part of reading the book again before the show started, I appreciated some of the vague or hinted at parts of the book that they answered in the show.

I'd say it's a mix of both. It's well written but it just reads like a history book. You don't get to the point where you really care about the characters all that much because they aren't around long enough for you to care about them. I only read it because I loved ASOIAF and I've read those numerous times, I have no desire to ever re-read Fire and Blood.

But I agree, House of the Dragon was really good.

The main audiobook version out there is pretty good.

I enjoyed it.

Lot to hate the fat man for, but the guy can build a world and a story.

I enjoyed it but it does get confusing AF. After I finished reading it, I felt like I could read it all over again and still be just as confused. Really wished he would've changed the names up. I often googled the Targaryen lineage.

I liked but I also like nonfiction history books. It reads like a nonfiction book, not like ASOIF. The Aegon the Conqueror stuff and Dying of the Dragons stuff was pretty enthralling, I read those sections pretty fast. The Jaeherys I stuff and everything Aegon III and onward was a bit boring though imo. If you like Martin's world like me I would definitely suggest it, if you're looking for a story with pov characters I would pass.

I’m a bit curious about it but out of principle, I’m not reading a single word from him until ASOIAF is done (so probably never)
