re: Dungeon crawler carl

So I am about 1/3 of the way through The Butcher's Masquerade and wanted to share a few thoughts.

1. This feels more like Books 1 and 2 than the others. Seems more precise in its story telling, if that makes sense. The shorter chapters may be driving that feeling as well as the focus on Carl and Donut not everyone else.

2. Never thought I'd be entertained by dinosaurs and their activities as much as I was.

3. I want more Samantha

It is very good but it it isnt Lit RPG. The narrator is considered top notch as well. He did PHM as well

A young American girl pretending to be the Queen of England if I had to describe it.

I prefer physical books over audio but it might be worth it to do at least one of the audiobooks for DCC just to get the voices the narrator does in your head. It's pretty incredible how good his variety of voices are.

It’s already been green lighted for a tv show and the voice actor who portrays donut (and mostly everyone else) has already been cast to do her voice


Just realized you are actually reading the books get the Audio books. It brings it to a whole new level and is the main reason the book has become so popular. The voice actor is amazing

For a second, I thought you meant race colloquially, and I was like “he’s on the cover of every book/audiobook…” then I realized what you meant

And yeah, the first time that’s actually relevant is being told he can’t do something in, what, book 7ish? Though I’m sure it’s going to become more and more important in the last couple of books.

Tbh, the race thing in video games and ttrpgs should be changed to species, or race in everyday should be ethnicity

DCC is awesome. I'm a book read and an audio listener. Book read first and then listen and it does add so much

And kind of cool that Matt and Jeff seem to be genuine good friends now

The first few books are primarily world and character building. We eventually get away from meeting new characters, leveling up, and getting to the next level. PH really explains why his race matters. I tell new readers that eye in the middle of the A matters and to pay real close attention to the item and character explanations as they progress

I'm now over half way through The Butcher’s Masquerade and I would be really disappointed if I didn't get Donut signing loudly at some point.

I also have decided that Samantha is my favorite character not named Carl or Donut.

If the TV show does not last long enough to give us Samantha in the Hunting Grounds rolling around I will forever be incomplete.

Finished The Butcher's Masquerade over the weekend. Really enjoyed the last third of the book and the buildup to the party.

One thing I really commend Matt on is his balance of time with characters. It would be so easy to put certain characters together and just let it cook but he does a great job of giving them their pathway and weaving it all together.

Already started The Eye of the Bedlam Bride and it's hard to stop listening.
