A lot of kickstarter boardgames and ttrpgs too
2nd and Charles in BR has a little section that has the books plus little toys
Back to the TV show discussion, maybe SM will use more AI. Apparently he used it to turn himself into Bill Clinton saying prosthetics and cgi looked horrible, but you can overlay AI over an actual actor to create the Katia morphing, etc.
I'm pretty sure all of Dinniman's interviews only mentioned CGI and specifically doing testing for CGI

I haven't read everything yet but my concern would be costs and them trying to cut the story short. I am only on book 3 but a lot of it is about equipment and leveling so that can be condensed

I get depressed every time I think about this being converted to a live action series by a second-tier studio.

For sure. I got my brother a goddammit Donut shirt for his birthday.

Yep, I ordered the sign copies of the books from the Kickstarter program. Hope the series takes off

I think the expectations, even if it were an animated show, needs to be brought way way down or you will end up disappointed
The only way it would be perfect is if it was being put on by a super fan with unlimited funds that was not at all worried about taking a full loss on the show

Why lower expectations when these studios are throwing stupid money at trying to find the next big thing? Animated would give them more of a chance to make a decent adaptation. Live action severely limits what you can do in terms of faithfulness to the source material which is what is most folks find important.

Maybe it's going to be a... live action... PUPPET SHOW!
That literally sounds better to me than trying to have people and CGI handle this project.

I have an 11 hour roundtrip drive this week and plan on listening to the audiobook. Doesn't sound like it's my type of genre, but I'm going to give it a try due to all of the recommendations. Hopefully I enjoy it.

I only read the books and haven't listened... but my advice would be to just stick with it for a while past the original premise. It starts out just... ridiculous but it slowly drew me into such a willing suspension of disbelief with the entire premise that it starts to feel not only hilariously entertaining but emotionally poignant.

One of my buddies who doesnt like fantasy or sci-fi started listening to them 2 weeks ago and hes already almost finished book 6. He's the type who only reads history type stuff or Lonesome Dove. He said it is one of the most entertaining things he has listening to. He owns a dairy farm so he has 8-10 hours a day to listen and has been looking forward to working so he can listen undisturbed.

I just finished book 7 and now a short wait for book 8
I was reading in-between each one just to prevent burn out, but after #6, wanted to make sure I finished #7 in time for the release
Now two weeks to go, I'm starting a short detective noir type to bridge the gap
My order so far from best to "worst"
1. Book 5
2. Book 7
3. Book 6
4. Book 3 (not many have it this high, but I liked it)
5. Book 2
6. Book 4
7. Book 1

Surprised to see 1 at the bottom. Was it just because it wasn't as serious as the others?
Here was how I ranked them a few pages back...
quote:
Tier 1
1, 5, 6
Tier 2
2, 4
Tier 3
3, 7
Though after letting it sit for a minute I would add 7 into tier 2. I think I had it on the bottom because of the slight let down after the high of books 5 and 6. Three was the clear bottom tier and 7 certainly is superior for me after letting it marinate.

I've struggled with where to place it for a while because it was 6 books and what... 4000 pages ago, but I think it suffers from being very early in character development, (duh, because it has to be), but also breadth of characters. Crazy thing is I just started the series in December so it hasn't been that long ago at all
I could rank book 4 below it and I can't really put a finger on it why I don't like book 4 as much. Still love it though
Granted, these ratings are like book 1 is a 4.65/5 with book 5 at 5/5
I liked book 7 a lot because you really see the toil on Carl where he is just out of the loop or blind to several things going on around him. He's fully not a Mary sue anymore and would not be alive without everyone he has around him. He's always had flaws, but also always seemed to have a plan and a way out.
First review for book 8 came out and put it in the top 3, not better than book 5 but just behind it

Doing a reread and just started butchers masquerade. Was worried they wouldn’t hold up as well on reread but if anything they’re better. 2nd book probably the weakest for me if felt so mashed together. Liked gate of feral gods a lot more this go through for some reason.

For the non-patreon supporters, only 3 more nights until release
I'm looking forward to Tuesday
Read an old noir in between 7 and 8 and haven't read anything for the past week or two, so I'm ready

A lot of Walmarts have it out on the shelf now apparently
