I read it about 10 years ago. There is some very interesting takes in the book. I believe a good bit of what is written to be true as I have worked at Ochsner and talked to old timers as to how things were back in those days. Alot of shady stuff was going on in New Orleans those days I was told by those who lived through those times. Ochsner was on a power trip and many phone lines were wire tapped in the area.

The entire intentional virus causing cancer issue is chilling. Seems like the more things "change" the mor they really stay the same.

It’s been awhile so details are a little hazy but I generally recall thinking there were regular leaps that were only marginally supported… but if even 20% of those proved true, it would still be a hell of a tale

I’ve been wanting to read it for a long time, and I finally started reading it last week. I couldn’t really get into it and put it down.

I keep waffling back and forth on wanting to read it. I don’t want to read another JFK, crazy conspiracy style book, but it seems interesting. The base story about the death of the doctor is definitely intriguing.

It's an interesting book and not as crazy as "Lee and Me", or whatever Judith Baker's(?) Book was titled. But Dr Mary's Monkey has some extreme logic leaps. If you take a shot every time you read the words "cancer causing monkey virus", you'll be a full blown alcoholic by end of the book.

If you're from New Orleans, especially if you're older than about 50, you'll probably find it interesting.

I've read about half of it. I feel like there are probably at least two books crammed in there. You've got the vaccine stuff, and then all of the JFK / Oswald stuff. There's a lot of miscellany in there about that Ferry wackjob, Cuba, etc.

It gets pretty difficult to follow. It's almost like what QAnon wants to be- more grounded in fact, but similarly broad in scope and "out there" in tenor.

Funny that I read this before Covid and I still bought into Haslam's vaccine/cancer argument more than any theory about JFK.

Just finished it. I found it credible, as the explosion in cancer cases is noticeable to me in people my age and older who got the vaccine in early 60s.
It is a stupid idea to try and use a cancer virus as a biological weapon. It’s a train you can’t stop, and the Wuhan leak was from a lab that at least had some sort of safety protocol in place. Think of the shite these people brought home. Damn.

ETA to clarify, I’m referring to the monkey handlers who were getting exposed.

I’ll give it a shot then. No pun! Ha ha. Not from NOLA but have family there. Just read Mr. New Orleans and The Last Madame which were both interesting and about that area. Liked them both.

It's an interesting book, especially if you're familiar with the names and places. Interesting, but that doesn't mean I necessarily believe it!

It reminds me of all the JFK conspiracy books I’ve read.

I finished it

Pacing really picks up in 2nd half. Very interesting, Haslem makes an intriguing case about Mary’s murder

Ocshners involvement in all of this is really interesting..

JFK theory isn’t really what the book is about, the author only makes the connections to jfk via the characters involved

I just finished the book. It’s not great, but not bad either. Similar to many JFK or other conspiracy books with a LOT of very tenuous connections being made to connect dots. It kept my interest more than I expected. If you like NOLA history and JFK connected stories, you’ll like it.

It mainly deals with the polio vaccine and possible contamination of that and the murder of a prominent doctor involved in research and Dr. Ochsner’s connections to it all as well. Jack Ruby, Oswald, Ferrie, Bannister, Clay Shaw, Garrison, everyone from the JFK world is there also.

I read it awhile ago. A very fascinating read. All "conspiracy theories" but we now know the CIA killed JFK. The story line never seemed that far fetched.

I don’t think there is anything new showing the cia did it.

Excerpt from someone who reviewed the new info:

What emerges from this account is not so much a portrait of CIA officials horror-struck that their role in the president’s murder might be exposed but of government bureaucrats scrambling to find details about the accused assassin and cover themselves, no doubt worried that they might be blamed for not paying more attention to him before the murder.

I read it. The more I read, the more I was convinced. With Covid and the fbi and cia now recognized as scheming political entities, it seems 100% accurate. There is really no telling what the government will do. Especially at that time when disparate entities could not readily be tied to one another.

It is so poorly written it is hard to get through. But I did believe a lot of it.

It's a fun read if you treat it like fiction.

...which it is.

That said, there are some aspects of it that still make me say hmmmmm.
