Yeah, Fevre Dream is pretty good stuff. I'd recommend that and Tuf Voyaging as his best novels other than ASOIAF. His short story collections are all excellent as well. The Armageddon Rag and The Dying of the Light I found to be just okay.
Agreed. Fevre Dream is not off the wall great but it's a good enjoyable read.
I found the Dreamsong retrospective/collection of his short stories to be good reading and I think it gives some insight into Martin and his outlook on writing fantasy/sci fi and horror. It starts from his very earliest stuff and is arranged chronologically and broken down into stages of his career. And the little introductions he puts for each stage are pretty informative too.

More casting news for S5:
More characters rumored
More characters rumored
quote:
Casting for the fifth season of Game of Thrones carries on, and so does the rumor mill.
According to our unofficial sources, the show has been looking to cast a few more characters, in addition to the lengthy list that surfaced a couple weeks ago. We’ve learned they’re searching for:
Varamyr: Dubbed Varamyr Sixskins in the book series, the wildling skinchanger initially appears in A Storm of Swords when he takes possession of the late Orell’s eagle, and takes on his scout role as well with Mance Rayder’s army. The book describes Varamyr as a small man, bald and grey-faced with round shoulders. The show is supposedly looking to cast an actor in the 35-45 year old age range. It’s unclear what position Varamyr will take on in the fifth season as his introduction point in the books has already passed in the show.
Imogen: A 12 year old blonde girl. It’s speculated that this may actually be the casting call for young Cersei. Given that there is no Imogen in the books, and we’ve heard that Game of Thrones is auditioning girls for the role of young Cersei, this seems likely.
Brunette girl: 12 years old. There’s no additional information about this part. For book-related possibilities, our best guess with regards to the role is probably Melara, a girl involved in young Cersei’s story with the fortuneteller Maggy the Frog.
The list of potential characters is unconfirmed by HBO at this time.
Ours is the Fury: Introducing Varamyr at this point is a little puzzling. It seems like it would’ve been a good idea to do that for season 4, but perhaps bringing in another warg is a sign that the show is going to focus more on developing warg abilities for other characters in season 5.

are they really going to give us a young Cersei flashback but no Rhaegar?
Posted on 6/5/14 at 10:59 am to NIH
I was really hoping for some Robert Rebellion flashback scenes...although I'm really excited to see the Maggie the Frog flashback. Cersei was a crazy psycho bitch even at age 11/12.

Well a good bit of the reason that Cersei is the way she is stems from Maggy the Frog, her dad's marriage promise being broken, her mom's death, etc. I actually felt bad for her in the naked walk chapter.

Was the Cersei-Rhaegar marriage promised and then broken or was it straight-up rejected by Aerys?

Tywin promised it to her when she was little and Aerys ended up rejecting it saying he wouldn't marry his son to the "help". That's what caused Tywin to resign, IIRC.

If Aerys didn't reject the betrothal and if Rhaegar and Cersei got married instead, how would the events of RR transpired?

well rhaegar may have still fallen for Lyanna and stolen her away to the Tower of Joy
But Tywin would have still been Hand of the King and he probably would hve tried to put a stop to that since his daughter wouldve been married to Rhaegar
but lets say he couldnt stop it, you would've had all the Lannister forces on the targ side of the battle bc even if Tywin also thought Aerys was crazy, he wouldve done what he could to protect the throne since his daughter was queen.
Basically Robert MAY have still won but it wouldve been much tougher

Rhaegar may have had less of a wandering eye and may not have lusted after Lyanna to the extent of seducing/kidnapping her. After all Elia Martell was sickly woman. Had Rhaegar still done the deed with Lyanna, Robert probably still would have rebelled. However the Lannisters would have been more or less bound to side with the Targaryens. There's still the question of Aerys' executing Ned's father and brother. Had Lyanna not left, perhaps the Stark family would have been left intact. Catelyn would have married Brandon; Ned would have been with...
Now what if Brandon Stark had killed Petyr Baelish in that duel over Catelyn? How ironic that Cat saved the man who would end up causing her family so much ruin.

What if Joanna doesn't die giving birth, Oberyn marries Cersei & Elia marries Jamie.
Does Rhaegar then marry Ashra, his best friends little sis, Cate Tully of the Riverlands, or Lyanna?

saw a blurb on the cover of Game of Thrones from Robert Jordan (ironically enough since I just mentioned him) saying the book was brilliant, and fantasy book of the year, blah blah. Read the back cover and it sounded interesting, there you go.
This happened to me also i saw game of thrones at Wal-mart before the began advertisement for the series start. I am a fan of Robert Jordan. I also was in the third grade in 1998
