Is it ever stated in the books what links Oberyn got at the Citadel? I assume poisons were one.

He got a half dozen, not sure if poison was one. He studies about poisons when in the Free Cities, it was said the no one in Westros knew more about poisons then him. He got the nickname Red Viper, prior to going to either the Citadel or Lys.

Ok...just finished my second read through, and used the boiled leather approach.
It's amazing how many people and connections I missed on the first read. So just a few things I wanted to bring up.
1. Lysa's "confession" as she fell from the moon door. Oh Littlefinger, you devil!
2. The outlaws have a spy in Riverrun playing his strings for Lord Frey.
3. I actually believe John's letter is from the bastard. I don't buy that it was Mel, and no one else knew of Mance. Now the Bastard's army is probably very depleated and at each others throats, but I think that may be why he wants John to come to him. I do NOT beleive he defeated Stannis, yet. If that banker found Stannis, and made it back to the wall, I think Stannis's conquest may continue until he is killed by the others, becomes the NK, or bends the knee to Aegon and Danearys.
4. I must have just completely skipped the ADWD epilogue my first read. Holy shite! But now Margerie has no one to testify against her, which would seem to go against Varys's plan of chaos in the red keep. Loved his speech on Aegon.
5. Yes, R + L = J, and no he's not dead (steam rising from his wounds)but i still think Danearys is AA reborn. Lightbringer will come, eventually. John ends up with Viscereon (green?) and Aegon ends up with Rhaegal (white?).
6. Tyrion will wreck shite in Westeros soon enough. He will be Lord of Casterly Rock, but damn near broke after paying his company off.
7. Connington will not live to see his greyscale kill him.
8. Jamie is Cersie's Volonquar (sp?).
9. Why do people here think the Hound is alive on the quiet isles? Just a hunch?
I even enjoyed Brienne's arc when read in the boiled leather approach. This was the only series I've ever read twice, and it was awesome both times.
Now I can finally start watching this season. I have not seen one episode yet.

Stranger is in the stables. The septon talks about his own "death" right after discussing The Hound's. The Gravedigger seems large enough to be The Hound.

Exactly. And he walks weird/similar to his injury.

Read about it here:
The two things I missed were the gravediggers size and affection for Dog, and the deliberate manner in which you had to reach the isles. That's a great point.
I thought Arya rode stranger to Saltpans, which wouldn't make it too far for stranger to wander over to the quiet isles. But the path...that is definitly hard to argue that stranger could have done that without being led.

One of the more compelling theories and I doubt it gets revisited again. I can see it being similar to the Syrio saga of going back and forth between ppl thinking him dead or alive...

Why was Jaqen H'ghar in the cells in King's Landing?
Posted on 6/2/14 at 3:26 pm to TigerintheNO
To murder someone there?
Posted on 6/2/14 at 3:35 pm to TigerintheNO
Because he is/was Syrio Forel?

Yep. Also, nobody important dies in this story without us seeing it happen.

I wonder why Rogue and Biter was terrified of Jaqen

If it wasn't already distressing enough that HBO's Game of Thrones TV series is most likely going to overtake author George R. R. Martin's actual writing of the Song of Ice and Fire novels before he can finish the full saga, Martin's editor, Anne Groell, is now saying that the story may require more than seven books.
As of now, fans are eagerly awaiting Martin's sixth book in the series, The Winds of Winter. With the expectation that the seventh book, reportedly titled A Dream of Spring, would be the final one. Groell, while answering fan questions, had this to say...
I begin to wonder — though 7 is what we currently have under contract. I remember when he called me, years and years back, to confess that his little trilogy was...well...no longer a trilogy. He predicted four books. I said Seven Books for Seven Kingdoms. Then he said five books. I said Seven Books for Seven Kingdoms. Then he went to six. I said...Well, you get it. Finally, we were on the same page. Seven Books for Seven Kingdoms. Good. Only, as I recently learned while editing THE WORLD OF ICE AND FIRE (another awesome thing you must buy when it comes out!), there are really technically eight kingdoms, all having to do with who has annexed what when Aegon the Conqueror landed in Westeros. So, maybe eight books for Seven Kingdoms would be okay. Also, he has promised me that, when he finally wraps this great beast us, I can publish the five page letter outlining the bare bones of the "trilogy."
As far as an actual update on The Winds of Winter goes, Groell stated "I currently have 168 pages that he submitted back in Feb 2013 in order to receive a contracted payment, but I know more exists, because he keeps talking about chapter he hasn't yet sent me."

I might quit if that is true.....seriously. I already have my fears that he wrote himself into a hole but that would confirm it
