bump to keep on first page.

I think Carice has the best facial bone structure, but i think Oona is just beautiful. I also really liked her in The Hour so I may be biased.

Thanks for bumping; this thread really needs to be on the first page since we're getting closer and closer to Season 4.

I think Carice is pretty too, and underrated. Dany is overrated, nothing unusual about that.

What does everyone think of this theory?

Maester Aemon & R+L=J

Aemon & Jon's parentage

I definitely think that Aemon knew about Jon's parentage. Thanks for the link.

Why else would Aemon take such a shining to a bastard from a northern lord if he didn't know something of it?

We always know that if a character is the focus of a certain storyline, they are special in some way. This is assumed but if we look at it from Aemon's perspective..out of all the bastards and unwanted sons of all the lords in the realm that came to the Night's Watch he choose Jon Snow to give extra attention to, and probably persuaded Mormont to bring him in as his apprentice because of R+L = J

Mormont

I think there is a chance that he knew as well.

Ned
Howland
Benjen
Aemon
Jeor

The only people in Westeros that knew. That list is getting smaller.

No. She might be in the running, but it's no where near by far.

I agree with your list. Since I started my series rewatch a few weeks ago, I think it's weird that Jeor gave a bastard (albeit a noble bastard) his family's Valyrian steel sword. He could've easily sent it back to Bear Island with Maege and her daughters. Would love to see Jorah's reaction to learning his father gave the sword to Jon.

I have no doubts about Aemon knowing. Didn't the passage in the Jade Compendium that Jon read was about Azor Ahai? We know that Aemon tells Sam that he believes Dany to be Azor Ahai Reborn, but perhaps upon leaving the NW in AFFC, maybe he thought it was Jon instead??

The key to all of this I believe is Selmy. He served under Aerys and from what he has been telling Dany he knew Rhaegar surprisingly well, even though he wasn't considered a "close" friend. The more we find out about Rhaegar the more the SoIaF will be sung. I think the reason Rhaegar talked to Aemon so much is because of Aemon's maestership. Rhaegar knew that Aemon could give him counsel without opening his mouth. But somewhere along Rhaeger trying to fullfil the prophecy he knew it would cost him his life. Selmy talks about Rhaegar being born under a shadow of grief that hung over him all his life.

Also there's this: Selmy talks about Rhaegar going to Summerhall by himself and sleeping in the ruins, but always coming back with a song that was about himself and his family and they were always melancholy. The dwarf woman/green seer/child of the forest at Heart Hill tells Arya that she is a blood child and that she had fed on enough grief at Summerhall. My question is, what the hell is at Summerhall other than maybe the ghost of the Targaryans that died their? What fasinated Rhaegar so much to go there so often? Is there one more egg still sitting there hidden? BTW these chapters are right next to each other.

Lastly, I noticed, after Jon is escapes the wildlings in the Gift and he stops to rest, he wonders, how he was able to fight off the wildling with sword in hand and mount the horse with a saddle. Sounds familiar to Lyanna. So to me of there was any doubt about Lyanna being his mother, that just threw it out the window.

I think he may be referring to how Lyanna and Brandon were both excellent horse riders, and people used to say Lyanna was 'half a horse' herself (some think that she may have been warging her horse on some level). Therefore Jon has a natural riding ability like his mom and uncle, due to the Starks being wargs/skinchangers, which was latent until the beginning of the series.

From the AWOIAF:

quote:

Lyanna rode horses like a northman. Harwin compares her riding skills to those of Arya Stark.[4] Barbrey Dustin reports that both Brandon and Lyanna loved to ride. She compares them to a "pair of centaurs".[5] Roose Bolton claims that Lyanna was "half a horse herself", probably meaning a centaur, however, he also claims that his son, Domeric Bolton, could out-race her.[6]

Well it was said that Lyanna was a natural on a horse because of her wolfs blood. When Jon is in aw of his own skill on the horse it's put in the italicized thought form. I noticed in George's writing that he italicizes the thought of characters not just to distinguish it from dialog, but to subtly emphasize importance like we normally do when we read something italicized. So I think that this is a small important nod to the readers that says: hey, do you see the parallel?

I've noticed that when people discuss these theories that they feel like George has made it "too easy" to figure these plot points out. So in turn, with his grey shaded world and things always seeming to be a complex mystery, that he wouldn't make it so easy to figure his grand scheme. But if you'll look at the chapters with green seers you'll notice he telegraphs what is going to happen next. He did it with Jojen and he did it with Heart Hill. Someone asked in this thread or another if George is pissed because big reveal is ruined and I said I doubt because good writers want intelligent people to read their stories. And if the R+L=K is his big reveal then I think he's sitting back thinking "thank god dumbasses don't read my books because I've given them a fun mystery for them to try and solve and they done a great job of putting the pieces together to get their conclusion. Now, wait till they see who ends up on the Iron Throne."
