I'd be so depressed, I'd need to take vacation from work for atleast a week as I tried to climb out of a cask of wine.

Ok, so I re-read ADWD and AFFC over the past month and a theme I noticed was Cersei's longing to be a man or a warrior. Combine that with her ride in front of the Westerners outside the city gates, potentially no male Lannisters left in Westeros...and do we see her lead a western host on the battlefield vs. Daenarys or Aegon?

Doubt it. Cersei's arc indicates a downward spiral with crash and burn. I seriously doubt Cersei will ever get any satisfaction from this point forward. If I had to take a guess, she'll banish House Tyrell and the Reach from King's Landing for the murder of Pycelle and Kevan, just to very soon after that get a letter from Tyrion (Hand of the Queen), telling her what he's done with Aegon and Dany and to instill fear in her for her to become even more wreckless.

I think she'll have to flee to the rock before taking action vs the Tyrells. They have too many men in KL.

I'd say House Tyrell will either leave on their own accord, or they'll open the gates when Aegon comes to King's Landing, provided that Aegon marries Margaery.

I'm sure most of you have already seen, but I just finished ADWD last night and watched the reading of the Victarion sample from WoW.

This is the third segment of the interview ... Pretty fascinating, wihsed they would have had more Q&A.

Aurane Waters sighting?

quote:

A new pirate king has set up on Torturer's Deep. The Lord of the Waters, he styles himself. This one has real warships, three-deckers, monstrous large. You were wise not to come by sea. Since the Redwyne fleet passed through the Stepstones, those waters are crawling with strange sails, all the way north to the Straights of Tarth and Shipbreaker's Bay.

That would be great if he ended up wrecking the Crow's Eye's plans.

Yeah, he bugged out after Cersei got nicked. I hope he puts those warships to better use than stealing and plundering.

"Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue..."

Ok people, I've been knee-deep in crackpot land (or crack and pot, you may soon think)flipping through the books trying to figure out what Martin is doing with this Aerys/Tywin/Joanna thing, and haven't found much info to support if there is anything to it or not, but am convinced he's giving a subtle nod in that direction...red herring though it may be.

I just wanted to expand on what I stumbled over earlier(see pg 157) and throw it out for mass consideration.

(If you don't like where this is going, skip it. If you continue to read, don't reply with "stupid" or "dumb" unless you can support your argument with evidence from the text, NOT simply opinion or because "it makes my butt hurt to think about")

Jaime's dream about the blonde woman still bugs me, because of all the hoopla made over virtually EVERY other dreams/ visions mentioned in the series. Why would GRRM expect us to take this one at face value, Joanna weeping for her kids' sacrifices to be where Tywin wanted them? I really think there's more to it - especially when Martin follows that up in the next Jaime chapter with Tywin's own sister saying "Tyrion is Tywin's son, but not you"...sure, in context I know what she's saying...but Martin likes to betray context all the time. Why did Martin tell us of Aerys's lusting after Joanna at all? And then have Tywin resign as Hand and move family back to Casterly Rock? Then, when he returns, he has Jaime not only kill Aerys, but attempt to end the Targ line completely in the most savage and brutal way possible? Do you believe that a man who would allow a garrison of soldiers to rape his son's (and surely numbero uno heir to the fortune of Casterly Rock) wife, while he watched, then make him rape her, too, wouldn't order what the Mountain did to Rhaegar's wife and kids?

I have a hard time justifying this kind of hatred/ rage comes from a rejected betrothal? Or Aerys' appointing Jaime to the KG at 17?
When the Reynes flat out DEFIED their Leige Lord (a crime similar to treason), Tywin responded as he did for the EXAMPLE he needed to set for the other bannermen...He had MOTIVE, then, but still did not deal with the traitors in nearly the savage way he dealt with the Targs. He had to have more motive...Tywin was cruel, but very intelligent.

A couple of us have a huge dislike of the idea that Tyrion could be a Targ by Aerys...doesn't make it impossible though, at all. Now, I'm seeing that the twins are just as possible to NOT be by Tywin...speaking for myself,I'm pretty sure of only one thing for certain:

At least one of the Lannisters, maybe two, are not Tywin's.

A couple of things make me look at the twins -

-Hasn't Martin drilled it into us ad-nauseum that incest is an exclusively Targaryen practice? Not even a whisper of it from the histories of ANY other house in Westeros, not even rumors...except for these two? Is it really just pure coincidence?

-The argument has been made that there is even less doubt about the twins being Tywin's than Tyrion...why is that? because their legitimacy has not been questioned before? Their amazing physical perfection (Martin tells us again, many times, a very Targaryen trait, as recent as the new Arienne chapter)and blonde hair obviously makes them Lannisters...or does it? Maybe Tywin never questioned it himelf, even. Why would he?

- If Tywin knew he'd become a cuckold, he'd never admit it...but if he knew, or suspected...how sweet it must've been to know Aerys' own brood killed him, at Tywin's command?

-Isn't it interesting how Jaime and Cersei have always represented both sides of the proverbial Targaryen coin flipped by the gods at birth, madness and greatness? Especially to see that as time passes, each continues to polarize in these opposite directions? To take it further, how Joffrey continued this trait? Tommen and Myrcella, time will tell...

-As I said, I think one of them at least is not a Lannister, if not two. My guess at this point is that Tyrion is the red herring in this crakpot theory...he's maybe the true Lannister after all.
But the twins, being opposite sexes and therefore fraternal, by definition could have 2 different fathers. I don't see this having much plot value if true...unless one of them is the real 3rd head of the Dragon (pausing to re-load crack pipe)Not sure I could even talk myself into buying that one, honestly.

More than likely, this is one of those things that Martin never intends to elaborate on, much less resolve...but fun to consider all possible scenarios. Before we all freak out, remember I'm just pointing out the possibility not taking an all-out stand based on some want for this to be fact.

Have at it...

I think Jaime is Aerys's son and Cersei is Tywin's.

Seriously, though, I like some of your suggestions. I don't know if I buy into the idea, but it is certainly plausible.
