Former NFL QB Tony Romo once again attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open this year. However, his qualifying attempts went very poorly...
quote:

Romo entered a local qualifier at Ridgewood Country Club in Waco, Texas. He needed a great score to advance in the qualifying round – something in the high 60s or low 70s. However, he didn’t come close.

The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback carded a nine-over-par 79, ultimately falling 11 shots short of the qualifying mark. The top six golfers in the event advanced to the final qualifying stage.

Romo’s dreams of playing in the U.S. Open will have to wait another year.

Nothing wrong with a 79 for a US Am qualifier tournament, golf is hard.

Less than 4.5 shots on average over 18 holes…I’ll take that any day.

I play with guys that shoot better than 80 most of the time. Tony not going to make it. It's hard to go from 79 to 69 playing by PGA rules. I've worked qualifying tournaments. Most are college players and would smoke Tony on any given day. In fact I worked one at Firewheel and Tony was in it. He came in dead last out of about 60 players and had to go home. He's not going to make it. Nothing wrong with a 79 except when you play a PGA event like Waco. It will make you feel small. A drive from a 22 yr old D1 college player will make you feel small - even a D1 female player!

“Very poorly”? At a US Open qualifier?

90 would be very poor. For an amateur golfer, 79 is just a not a great day.

He can bug me as announcer; but, what exactly are you basing him being a douche bag on? Lemme guess, because he played for the Cowboys?
