Law enforcement sources tell us ... Kristin Cavallari's ex pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor DUI in a Tennessee courtroom, while Williamson County prosecutors dismissed the weapon possession charge he had been facing after he forfeited the weapon.

Cutler was then sentenced to four days in jail -- which we're told he'll have to begin serving by the end of next month.

The former NFL superstar was also ordered to pay a $350 fine ... and he'll be required to be on supervised probation for one year as well.

Additionally, Cutler -- whose Tennessee license is now revoked for one year -- must attend a DUI safety class.

Tennessee must not play around with DUI’s, I don’t know of anyone in Louisiana that got jail time for a first time DUI after being bonded out from the initial arrest.

Seriously. I got one when I was underage at 19 years old. Never saw a cell or handcuffs. 500 dollar fine, non adjudicated as long as I completed a class. Did not suspend license pending class completion.

In my opinion, getting behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated is tantamount to firing a gun up into the air. It's a serious transgression that is often brushed off as a non-serious decision. Anytime you choose to put others at risk, there should be consequences.
