Deion Sanders Calls Out The NFL Ahead Of The Draft
© Eric Shelton/Clarion Ledger via Imagn Content Services, LLC
On Monday, Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders revealed he believes the NFL needs to start paying close attention to HBCUs when it comes to the upcoming NFL Draft...
quote:

“I need at least four of our schools and their coaches represented, to bring the player they think is draftable, we’ve got to bring them to the draft. Because I want the kids to see it, I want them to feel it, I want them to touch it, I want them to witness it live, so they can say, ‘I can do that,’” Sanders said, via ProFootballTalk. “NFL Network, come on, make it happen.”

“That’s not gonna happen again. It’ll never happen again. I know for the pandemic year we got an excuse, but that’s not gonna happen again. My desire is 7-10 players this year drafted, then we’ll try and double that, and then the sky’s gonna be the limit.”

This is total nonsense. One thing about the NFL. If you can play, they will find. Regardless of where you went to school.

Back in the 60’s and ‘70’s black athletes were taken out of HBCU in large numbers largely because of racist prejudices in the South . In my state Grambling and Southern alone produced over a dozen HOF’s. Remember Jackson State had Sweetness himself Walter Payton easily in the top 5 greatest running backs in NFL history. Then in the mid seventies SEC teams open doors to recruit black athletes. So since the HBCU has declined in NFL caliber athletes.

Is Deion admitting the HBCU environment prepares the young athletes for the NFL? I pray Deion does not slip on the slippery slope of race baits as the reason why the HBCU programs are ignored.

“I need at least four of our schools and their coaches represented, to bring the player they think is draftable, we’ve got to bring them to the draft." Yea, cause I want Hue Jackson telling my team who to draft.

He’s right. The NFL simply doesn’t draft enough black players. I mean you turn on a game and it looks like a dentist convention out there. Unacceptable. Where are all the black running backs!?!? Where are they!?!

Teams will draft any player they think will help them win. Nobody is getting overlooked

Let me help you out a little. Teams will draft any player that they feel will help them make money. Winning is just a bonus.

I do respect what Deon is trying to do for young men.
