Todays game is what makes Roger Marie’s record still the most legendary to me. When Maria played there were no juiced balls, ballparks were much bigger, night games had just become a thing and technology was non existent. Ballparks have been designed for homers now. Roger was hitting with a piece of ordinary lumber out of the 420 ft comiskey.

There are several reasons why Judge's season is even more impressive than Maris'

Judge has seen 244 pitchers so far this year, compared to 101 for Maris in 1961.
Quality of pitchers is astronomically better now. The average fastball is 93.6mph this year. Back in 2002 -- the first year of standardized and publicly available velocity data -- MLB fastballs averaged 89.0 mph. Who knows how much slower they were in 1961?
Teams are using approximately twice as many pitchers per game as they were in 1961, so far less tired pitchers faced.
In some years, the juiced ball argument would work but Judge has a 20 homer lead over 2nd place. This isn't a juiced ball year.

This is possibly the greatest hitting season anyone has ever had. All while playing center field full time.

That ball is only worth what someone will pay for it... the fan won, he'll have that memory forever.

Ball # 60 is worthless when # 61 is hit.

Those are priceless discussions with friends if he so choose to keep it. Either way solid move by the fan.

Maybe if it was his final season and folks were talking abou the last HR he hit, but 60 is a milestone regardless of how many more he hits.
