Sounds like once again PETA began pleading, whining and crying before actually doing more than 5 minutes of research. They appear to be under the impression that Mike goes to every home game. In reality, Mike goes when he wants-- "Since Mike VI arrived on campus in 2007, he has attended 32 of the 57 home games. In 2007 (Mike VI’s first season), he attended all but the first home football game. In 2008, Mike VI attended the first two home games but no others. In 2009, he attended all but the first home game. In 2010, he attended all but two home games, and in 2011, he attended every home game. In 2012, he attended four games and missed four due to either a wet field or his unwillingness to load. In 2013, he attended three games, and in 2014, he did not attend any home games." As often as I hear PETA whining, they appear to have plenty of time on their hands-- How about using some of it for research and picking battles that make sense? LSU has a premier veterinary curriculum, ranked by US News in 2015 as one of the top 25 veterinary schools in the nation, and a chosen few of the students are given the honor of attending to Mike in his multi-million dollar habitat. Bengal tigers live an average 8 to 10 years in the wild. Mike was almost 12 when he passed away with cancer. If he were human, it would be the equivalent of living on a cruise ship with just the one passenger with a full, accredited medical staff on board dedicated to his health. In what world do you take advice on how to treat animals from any organization that euthanizes as many animals as PETA does?

I am about as liberal as they come for environmental and social reasons. PETA is off-base with this. Population growth in Asia will continue to threaten Bengal tigers. If the species survives the century, it will be in captivity. And a male tiger would be very very fortunate to be as well cared for as an LSU mascot. Bring on Mike VII.

I appreciate PETA's concern for animals but LSU has always taken the upmost care of their Tigers. Mike VI loved his fans and was loved very much by the caretakers and fans. LSU will continue with a live mascot!!!??????????. RIP Mike VI

PETA is a cult. They operated shelters that killed dogs. PETA freaking killed animals and didn't see their hypocrisy.

We would not want a Tiger to live in a 5 million house with his own Vet and food. Also when he gets sick he has professional medical care. Some have lived like 18 years and no way they are going to do that in the wild.

PETA does good as well...I want a new Mike the Tiger. Just not sure why TD hates them so much. A group that fights for the ethical treatment of animals doesn't sound so bad to me.
