Following LSU's 87-82 loss to Kentucky in the SEC Tournament, Max Mackinnon spoke to reporters in the postgame press conference and defended head coach Matt McMahon as his hot-seat chatter increases.
quote:

"Everyone wants to say something on Twitter, everyone has an opinion," Mackinnon said. "But we lost our two best players at the start of the year. We fought, and Coach Mac never changed. Every day, he made me a better player."

"It's going to help me with my future game. I just want to say that he was the same guy every day, with energy. He pushed me to limits I didn't think I could get to. I didn't think I could play at this level. So I want to credit Coach Mac. He has changed my basketball future and opportunities ahead."

“Excuses are tools of incompetence used to build bridges to nowhere and monuments of nothingness, and those who use them seldom specialize in anything else”.

We are in year 4 not year 1. Great coaches don’t have a 5 year plan.

Tell him that we're happy McMahon was actually able to do something for someone.

Having said that, McMahon needs to go, last year.

Yes they should move on from McMahon if someone will step up and buy him out. That being said I like that player speaks up and defends his coach. But that in no way am I implying that players should have say in the hiring for firing of a coach.

Agreed….players are free agents and the fact that McKinnon still has faith in him speaks volumes. Hope McKinnon doesn’t follow him to his next destination.

Most of the guys who have played for McMahon seem to like and appreciate him. Not sure why some folks attack players for that. You can still want a coach gone and acknowledge the things he does well or that he has good chemistry with his players.

Max is out of eligibility, I'm pretty sure.

LSU is not going to fire the basketball coach and buy out his contract. So the best thing that can be done is live with it unless or until the university decides to spend money on basketball the way it does on football (which is not going to happen). No one wants to admit it, but the team is actually getting better...or at least better than should be expected under the circumstances.

Getting better??? They won 3 freaking SEC games, finished dead last and got blown out by 3 of the 5 last place teams in the SEC at home in the PMAC. They won 2 of their last 10 games and needed OT to win in both. The goal is to win the game and we didn't improve. We were terrible.

It’s not the popular sentiment to express as clicks on social media, but I agree that this team kept fighting hard and got better toward end of the SEC schedule without its 2 best players. Not happy with the results, but willing to give McM another year with a good core coming back.

You didn’t think you could play at this level?

Last in the SEC?

Pack your stuff bruh.

You have to either have an agenda or be an imbecile not to understand Mackinnon is talking about his personal level of play. Which of the two are you?
user avatar
blueboxer11192 months
You have to be an imbecile to not realize this is a team game. His personal level of play was last in the SEC.

Don’t let the door hit you in the arse on the way out. Clear out everyone. Players, coaches, everyone.

Rinse the taste of perpetual losing from the program entirely.
