Former LSU Heisman Trophy quarterback Jayden Daniels sent out the following message on Thursday to address the No. 5 controversy.

quote:

"I have been locked in on training camp and that's been my number one focus. I have a lot of gratitude for my time at LSU and I'm proud of what my teammates and I accomplished there. Obviously there are issues to be worked out between my team and LSU and my hope is that it will get done privately. My sole personal focus is on Commanders' football. I realize the business of football is unique and I trust this can all be resolved."

Jayden, just concentrate on what is on your plate and in front of you. Your time at LSU has come and gone. Plus, you do not have a "Patent" on the Number 5! Wake up buddy!

There are no issues to be resolved. LSU owns the number. You don’t.

If LSU is selling merchandise with the #5 on it and no player name on it then I would say there is a fair argument that his likeness is driving the sales. The same could be said for #9 and #7.

If LSU makes the argument they reassigned it to another player that is not an absolute superstar, but are benefiting from sales through the roof for plain #5 gear then I think there is something to be challenged.

Based on what? As long as he is paid his licensing fees, he has no complaint. LSU owns their media including highlights of Daniels while at LSU. LSU can publish those images without his permission.

That’s a silly argument. Are you also going to pay Skyler Green, Derrius Guice, Kary Vincent Jr.? This could apply to any former LSU players that have any number. The number belongs to the university not the player. This is not the NFL.

Love you JD. But it doesn’t seem like you’re “locked in at training camp”

This shows he’s acting out emotionally, and I doubt he realizes how bad it makes him look. From a legal perspective, the timing is terrible and weakens any argument he might have. Why wait two years if you’re an established brand? You wouldn’t, which makes it clear this isn’t about money or likeness—it’s about someone wearing a number he feels he owns, even though it belongs to the university. They’ve always sold the number 5, and he’ll have a hard time proving people buy it because of him. In fact, LSU fans might now purposely claim they bought it for other reasons, just to give him a reality check. Feels like he’s in for a rough year ahead, revealing his hand and showing a lack of care for the program, the young players, and the focus they need right now. Then he comes out and starts this mess—bad look and a dumb move. Once you disrespect the fanbase, you don’t get that same love back you once had.

JD is a momma's boy bitch. Needs to worry about the "Redskins" upcoming season vs. who is wearing #5 at LSU.

Take your ball and go home. #5 isn't exclusive to you.

I bet he didn’t know they were sending that cease and desist.

You bet he did. Would you risk sending something in his name, knowing he could face backlash from a huge program with a fan base like ours? Heck no. His people may be wild, but they’re not that dumb. He was acting out emotionally, upset, and couldn’t keep it together. He probably assumed it wouldn’t be a big deal, but again, he was caught up in his feelings and not thinking it through. He’s always had that stuck-up boy attitude, and anyone who’s been around him knows exactly what I mean. He’s chill, but just as much of a prima donna.

Hey news flash. In my life people don't make things public that they want to keep private. Perhaps you need much more wise & mature people on your team.

He wants to get paid. LSU is probably using clips of him at LSU and someone in family thinks he should get paid.

LSU can use as many clips as they want featuring him in game footage from when he played here. He was given a scholarship and the privilege of being here, and the university owns the brand. He didn’t just come to LSU; he embraced and benefited from the brand, or he never would have been here. Now that he’s gone, he acts like he’s owed something, when in reality he wasn’t much without LSU until he became part of the brand. I’d bet if you randomly asked half the fan base what his jersey number was, at least half wouldn’t know—until this whole ordeal.

Comical that he says he wants to address the issues in private. Your “team” went public and you thought you had the upper hand until the national media dunked on you. Selfish brat actions.

Too late.

The only thing I question is the verbiage they are asking to c&d the name image and likeness. Is this more than just the #5? If LSU is using JD in some other way I can understand, but if it's strictly about the #5 then yeah he has no say.

It’s probably the number 5 jersey with Daniels on it
