ESPN NFL Draft and College Football Analyst Todd McShay joined the "Russillo and Kanell" radio show Wednesday and talked about LSU's struggles on offense.

McShay, who was the sideline reporter for the LSU-Wisconsin game, said the main issue is quarterback Brandon Harris and thinks the coaching staff should start Danny Etling in Saturday's game vs. Jacksonville State.

No, it is time to quit playing in a phone booth and use tempo and spread, motion, put the defense on it's heels. The one scoring drive of 49 yds was 2 plays in 16 seconds. TD, why are you making a feature story from one knee-jerk’s brain fart? He is a lone voice. Miles and Cam are the problem and they just outdid themselves, losing to an OOC opponent and finishing last in the FBS in Scoring Offense and Pace of Play. Those two are 14-10 SEC, 9-9 SECW and have failed to put players in position to succeed, by being the least spread one-dimensional, slow, predictable O 3 yrs running. LesBoCam failed to visit other programs and to open the offense with Tempo, Spread, motion, 3-5WR sets. LF had 35 yds on 11 carries in the 1st Half and Guice fumbled. Smashmouth is high-injury and LF is already injured. "The motor appears to be pretty stinking" breakable. Cam was fired from the Ravens for using 2 WRs into double coverage and failing to develop or protect Flacco, a 5-yr failure to develop a Passing game offensive identity, with tempo, spread. His 3-WR utilization was the lowest in the NFL, long isolation routes into double teams. Stripes, you are so wrong. If Harris changed places with Watson or 5'10" Greg Ward, Hurts, or Francois, he would be a Heisman contender. Offensive-Minded Coaches fit the scheme to their talent. Miles knows Harris set scoring records as a FR and is more effective in the shotgun, with quick release, and scrambles, yet he wants to play Bo Ball and feature 1 player. An offensive minded coach like Herman, Fisher, Freeze, Meyer, Patterson, Sweeney, Briles, or Saban would showcase Harris, and like in the South Carolina game, LF runs better out of the spread.

It's time for more than replacement of a qb. That's not the issue

Any new coach who came in to LSU would make replacing Brandon Harris a top priority. He is out of position. Plain and simple

Or Herman could turn Harris around and make him another good dual threat QB to run his power spread. Either way, I just want to see good QB play and good offense. Doesn't matter who's out there. Ready to see what Etling and Scott can do in the Jax State game.

Baybayoubengal lol. You are delusional. Herman isn't going to make Harris NOT overthrow wide open receivers. Or throw the worst interception I've ever seen and ive been watching Football for 28 years now. That throw was so bad, it borders on the criminal.

If you can't see that the blind loyalty to Brandon Harris is killing this team then you are oblivious to reality. Some of these nitwits talk incessantly about "the offense" but never say what they think the specific problems are because they really don't know. The specific problem is that Brandon Harris is unable to lead this team. He can not complete short passes and force a defense to back away from putting 7 or 8 in the box. He is not an SEC caliber QB. Never will be. Terrible.

Why would Todd Mcshay use logic and common sense? What is he thinking

Just bench him before you lose to many games and recruits start leaving.

How many times have I seen the posters on this site call Todd McShay a moron? Now his statements support your agenda and suddenly he's a genius.
user avatar
STRIPES93 months
Agenda? Harris can't pass. Replacing a QB who can't hit open receivers, can't find open receivers, completes only 33% of his passes, and throws game killing interceptions is an Agenda? No it is you simpletons who are simply saying Miles this and Miles that who have the agenda. I want LSU to win. People like you hate Miles so much that you would rather stay with an obvious problem than correct it just so you can bash Miles. That is the truth.

Exactly what did you see at the Wisconsin game that makes you believe other wise? Do tell...

I actually am a huge Miles fan and would be fine with whatever decision he makes regarding Harris. I just can't believe how quickly McShay became the smartest man in the room around here.

Auburn moved on from a "Heisman candidate" pretty quick last year. This has Jeremy Johnson written all over it.

Sure it's not all Harris but mcshay was right. He misses throws that's gotta be made. His confidence is way down so benching him isn't as bad because of etling doesn't get it done u can come back to Harris because his confidence won't get any lower

Look Harris is done. He is a damn Junior. He has had more opportunity than he deserves. I would play Etling or Lindsey Scott before I came back to the mess that is Brandon Harris. He is not any kind of answer at all. Pitiful.

Thats why your a sideline reporter McShay, cause you don't know football. The O-line has to at least get in the way of blitzers. Is it Harris's fault Fournette was caught from behind and behind the line of scrimage?

He doesn't know football, yet he's works for a nationally known sports company while you sit here on a message board....telling us he doesn't know football....are you the alternative?

Mcshay is one of the most knowledgeable reporters on tge planet. His main job is draft specialist. He and Kiper are espn's draft guys.

Actually it probably is, since getting the passing game going would remove players in the box. Try thinking a little deeper before you spew crap like this. Don't get me wrong the oline played bad but from a scheme standpoint yes it kind of is his fault.

Y'all do realize 2 years ago we were all begging for Harris over Jennings. At some point it's not just the QB. It's the system and the man running the ship

Blob Fish93 months
Well, it's clearly a complex, multifactorial problem. Sure, the coaches shoulder a lot of blame for designing a pro style offense around kids who really aren't good quarterbacks. Most teams with mediocre QBs get creative. But regardless of the style of offense, Harris would still have to hit his receivers in the hands, which after three years he STILL can't do consistently. He also has no football IQ or situational awareness. That last interception tells the whole story of the depth of understanding that BHarris has about the position. It was truly one of the worst decisions I have ever seen from a senior classman QB. Truly idiotic AND inaccurate.
user avatar
BDJ93 months
Blob Fish I agree with you 100%. Some fault lays with the coaches, but they are putting Harris in a position to succeed. Harris is wildly inaccurate.

I say hand the ball to Lindsey Scott & let's see what he got! He can't be no worse than B Harris.
user avatar
Mulerider93 months
It won't matter what Scott brings to the table. He will not be allowed to enjoy a system he can succeed in. He will be another failure of the system in place. Harris is not a drop back pocket passer. Neither is Scott.

monsterballads93 months
Harris will start and play until he is either hurt or there is a huge lead (i don't expect the huge lead thing to happen to any team this season)

Different QB + Same OC/HC = another QB regression
user avatar
BDJ93 months
You are a spedster bro. The OC / HC cannot make the QB throw the ball accurately. No amount of coaches in the world can make a kid have guts and not buckle under pressure. Harris probably looks amazing in practice, but when he gets in games he shits the bed. You can't give a guy nerves. Period.
