After each week's completion, ESPN College Football analyst Cole Cubelic shares his "Sunday SEC takeaways."

Here's what he had to say about LSU after the Tigers' overtime loss to Kentucky, along with his comments about the Wildcats:
quote:

LSU: Tough one. Thought they could have leaned on run more earlier. Didn't give inside run much of a chance. Had too many missed blocks when they did go to the run. Too much east-west IMO. 13 good out of backfield. Not many shot plays. QB looked to leave pocket early at times. Looked fine when he settled down. His legs did help at times. Waited too long to make decisions. Trick plays had success. 1 was great on def, beat pullers, got to QB inside & outside. 2 played really well, PD, run through to get in backfield. Back end had a few breakdowns. 42 played backside of the run game well. List contain at times. QB leaving pocket hurt. Found pressure from depth. 99 good vs doubles. Mis fit too often. Formation confusion.

KENTUCKY: Big one. Used deception on off well. Pre snap shifts & motions helped them steal yards, masterful. Misdirection helped. 1 was great, had just enough patience on both gap & zone runs. 81 blocked his fanny off. WRs made tough catches & got tough yards, esp 5. 77 played well, handled games. Tackles had a few key downs in pass pro. Effective in play action protection. QB fortunate on a couple high risk throws but made great decisions most of the game. Mesh worked again. Just enough called QB run. Missed a couple edge pressures. Defense did a much better job generating pass rush. 2 got home. 6 affected the pocket. 8 had good reps off edge. 7 got push inside. Liked the overloads & edge pressures that were called. They tackled well in space. Limited run after catch. Got QB off his spot. Took the ball away. 0 was flying around. 22 played fast. 2 flags & 0 turnovers will keep you in a ton of games.

I always like the format of Cublic’s summaries. Hard to ignore how much more positive his review was for Kentucky, though. Reality is, they won by a single point on a 2 point conversion in overtime.
