Sam Leavitt Shares Health Update For Kentucky, Explains How Hamstring Injury Helped Him

LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt expects to be fully healthy for the Tigers' trip to Kentucky on Saturday.
Leavitt has been dealing with a hamstring injury suffered during LSU's 35-6 win over Texas A&M, which limited his mobility in the last two games. But speaking with reporters Tuesday, Leavitt said the injury is no longer much of a concern.
“It’s feeling really good. I’ll be 100% by Saturday,” Leavitt said. “It was just a super light hamstring thing and got it back really good for the game, and I just didn’t really have to run around.”
While the injury limited Leavitt's ability to make plays with his legs, he believes it may have helped him become a better passer.
Leavitt said he came out of LSU's loss at Ole Miss focused on standing in the pocket, trusting himself and “letting the ball rip.” When he injured his hamstring against Texas A&M, he didn't have much of a choice.
“I was able to just let it rip and play out there with a carefree mindset,” Leavitt said. “I didn’t really have another option, and kind of just let it click in my head.”
Leavitt threw for 312 yards and two touchdowns against the Aggies despite the injury. He followed that performance by completing 18-of-23 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns in the first half against McNeese.
Looking back, Leavitt called the hamstring injury a “blessing in a way.”
“God works in mysterious ways, so take everything as it is and use it to your advantage.”
Now healthy again, Leavitt and the Tigers will head back on the road Saturday to face Kentucky at Kroger Field. Kickoff is at 6 pm CT on ESPN.
