Update: LSU WR Coach Mickey Joseph Has Accepted Position On Nebraska's Staff

Football Scoop is reporting that Nebraska head coach Scott Frost is finalizing a deal to hire LSU wide receiver coach and recruiting coordinator Mickey Joseph to his staff in Lincoln.

Earlier this week it was reported that Frost was targeting Joseph.

Joseph, a 53-year-old Louisiana native, played quarterback at Nebraska from 1988-1991.

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Mickey Joseph, the Tigers' affable wide receivers coach and ace recruiter, has accepted a similar position on Frost's Cornhuskers' staff.

Joseph was set to inform his players and begin his new role at Nebraska, his alma mater, as quickly as possible.
Ed Orgeron hired Joseph to his staff as wide receiver coach in 2017 and gave him the title of assistant head coach in 2020. He signed a new two-year contract extension in May worth $500,000 in the first year and $550,000 in the second year. He is one of LSU's top recruiters on staff.

Joseph reportedly turned down an offer to become Nebraska's passing game coordinator and associate head coach after LSU won the 2019 National Championship.

Stay tuned...

Frost regime at Nebraska is a sinking ship. Why in the world would he go there now?

I guess Kelly didn’t plan to retain him, so he’s going to help fix the sinking ship at his alma mater

Is CBK going to keep him? New coaches usually bring in their own people.

The question really answers itself if you just think about it enough

Frost needs some good recruiters, and Joseph will give him some help in that regard, not to mention a pipeline to New Orleans talent

The biggest success of some recruiting for LSU is simply those three letters on their polos when they walk in the home or school. Many times the guy is good, but the logo is what makes you or breaks you on the recruiting trail. Case and point: Frank Wilson.

I figured this would happen but I was really hoping we could keep Mickey.

Agreed......there will be a major shake up in staff. It is clear that several posters have never worked in a mid to upper level management position or they would understand the process.

He gonna have to earn his money trying to convince kids to go to that dumpster

All that means is he wasn’t asked to stay. That’s a 1 year job with Scott Frost.

Nothing unexpected in the world of 'building your own team'. Have been through several management changes and this is nothing different. BK needs first line managers that he can trust, and they can trust him. If a CEO doesn't have a history with someone, usually 'HE GONE'. RELAX people and let the process work itself out.

Hope it works out. I’ve always rooted for Nebraska.

He'll be looking for another school to coach at for the 2023 season when Frost is canned.

Joseph has to lookout for his job security and family but Kelly hasn't even had the time to talk with his prospective coaches. You have to be looking for your next job opportunity. But I have to question this move for Joseph as Frost's tenure at Nebraska is on very shaky ground and their QB, who Frost famously passed on Joe Burrows for, just entered the Transfer Portal. Questionable move for sure...

I’m sure CBK can & has taken the time to let certain coaches know if they should be ‘listening’ to other offers. I gotta think that’s 1 of the 1st things CBK & SW discussed after the Deal was signed. Do all the other coaches contracts terminate along w/the HC or are some/all independent deals?

Taking a job with a head coach that is on his way out is never a good option; unless it is your only option.
