NOLA.com learned on Wednesday that senior LSU linebacker Corey Thompson suffered a leg injury on Wednesday, which was confirmed by a source in the program.

The 6-2, 222-pounder moved to linebacker in the spring to add depth to a thin linebacker corp, after playing as a safety throughout his career at LSU. Early indications are that it may be a broken fibula, which could require surgery, and would likely take 6-8 weeks to recover.
Thompson missed his junior season in 2014 due to an injury and received a redshirt. Whether or not he can receive another year of eligibly will be decided by the NCAA.

The 6-2, 222-pounder from Missouri City, Tx recently made the move from safety to linebacker in Dave Aranda's new 3-4 defense.

Thompson was competing at the F-Linebacker position with senior Tashawn Bower, who missed the first few days of practice last week with a minor injury. Behind Thompson and Bower is freshmen Michael Divinity and Ray Thornton.

Im still optimistic that Aranda can figure out a plan even if we lose depth. But so far since last Thursday our possible Dream season could end up being a nightmare unless we get some help from the football gods.

I mean, 6-8 weeks gets him back by early October. That's not too terrible.

After a whole summer of lifting and training the player we get back in 6-8 weeks of recovery isn't the same one we lost today.
