Former LSU defensive coordinator and current Youngstown State head coach Bo Pelini could be a strong candidate to replace Dave Aranda as LSU's defensive coordinator, according to Football Scoop.

Pelini served as LSU's defensive coordinator under Les Miles from 2005-07 and was in charge of the defense when the Tigers won the 2008 BCS National Championship over Ohio State.

The 52-year old left LSU after the 2008 title game to become the head coach at Nebraska, going 67–27 and winning at least 9 games every year before he was fired in 2014.

Pelini has been the head coach at Youngstown State since 2015.

What defensive formation did we run under Bo? Was it the current 3-4 or a 4-3?

Dude has done well wherever he went. If you haven’t noticed it’s not easy to win at Nebraska anymore and the guy went 97-27. Bring him back and let him coach real talent and see what happens.

The talent he coached here is what I immediately comes to mind when I remember Bo Pelini. Guys like Glen Dorsey, Tyson Jackson, Laron Landry, Ricky-Jean Francois, Chevis Jackson, Craig Steltz, Ali Highsmith, Chad Jones... His LSU defenses are legendary.

Pelini is not good. Once his D was analyzed by the other coordinators, he had nothing new to add. His first D was very good and it started going downhill. Nebraska can tell you.

Sort of like Aranda? Defensive ranks declined every year. Pelini built hard hitting scary defenses. He had bad games but maybe he learned from them and it made him better. I’m all in for Pelini.

"but maybe he learned from them and it made him better. I’m all in for Pelini." I am not willing to take a chance on MAYBE HE LEARNED. Would you want your ex wife back after you found a reason to break up ??? There are other choices .

Would be a great hire . I remember when he left for Nebraska, LSU fans wanted to jump off bridges . Would be great to get him back running our defense.

funny i don't remember any lsu fans wanting to jump off bridges over pelini departure. personally i was happy to see him go, just like i am with aranda. we can do better.

In 2007, I was at a practice before the championship game, and I watch Bo, one piece at a time, what seemed like atleast 20 sticks of gum in his mouth. Was amazed that someone could chew so much gum at one time.

He was using gum to get of dipping tobacco I believe back then.

Horrible hire if they go this route. Dude has got anger issues and never defended the spread.

Not so sure. Like O, Pelini may have benefited from a breadth of invaluable and most-likely humbling experiences. I think he could be a great hire and may even stay for a while.

Lol you scared of anger issues? Your boss probably yells at you all the time?

Pelini sucks just like you hurricane. Horrible hire. We don't want Nebraska's left overs. Our team is too good to settle for him

I'm pretty damn sure no one should question Coach O on anything at this point. If he thinks it's a good idea it's likely a great idea.

really...was it not coach o who assured us repeatedly that joe brady was a tiger and was not going anywhere???

If you didnt know that the brady contract extension was a smoke screen to get us through the end of the season, you are an idiot

Bo is a much better choice than Chavis or Aranda.

did not realize those were the only choices... BO is NOT the answer. There has got to be some DCs w NFL experience for mismatches and/or some young DCs wanting to prove themselves. This is not a recycle program.

How about we wait at least one season after the natty for the ridiculous takes?

you mean he paid for a stellar QB to help him win a natty that covered for his lack of coaching ability and then the admin realized this and fired him after 2 years?

Does this have the smoke screen feel to it? Like would this really get out if he was in serious contention? Would we leak his name to not ruin our chances with someone else or is this legit? Not gonna lie, I kinda dig the idea of his crazy, intense arse on the sideline.
