The marriage between LSU and offensive coordinator Matt Canada is expected to come to an end shortly after the Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1 and candidates for the job have begun to emerge.

Following LSU's season finale vs. Texas A&M, head coach Ed Orgeron suggested that tight end coach Steve Ensminger, who served as interim OC in 2016, could replace Canada full-time.

Another candidate for the job could be Kentucky offensive coordinator Eddie Gran, according to Glenn Guilbeau with The Daily Advertiser:
quote:

If not Ensminger, a possible replacement for Canada may be Kentucky offensive coordinator Eddie Gran, who was special teams coach at Tennessee in 2009 when Orgeron was the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator there. Gran is known as a strong recruiter in Florida and was Florida State's offensive coordinator from 2010-12 and Cincinnati's offensive coordinator from 2013-15 before going to Kentucky.

Gran, 52, will cost more than Ensminger as he is making $825,000 a year that will rise to $875,000 in 2020, according to his contract. Ensminger, 59, is making $335,000 a year. LSU will still owe Canada the remaining two years of his guaranteed three-year contract at $3 million, which will be subtracted by whatever he makes in a new job.

But the coordinator can be a CEO type coordinator. Then we can use the savings to hire great position coaches!

“LSU will still owe Canada the remaining two years of his guaranteed three-year contract at $3 million, which will be subtracted by whatever he makes in a new job.” This is what pisses me off the most. We were so sure MC was the guy. Now, less than a year removed, we have to pay for a $3 million dollar mistake? Chaps my arse.

If that happens O has lost his mind! Keep Canada and the Offense will be even better next year! O has broken his own rule of letting the coaches coach! O is a D line coach and showing it! O gonna take us back to the 90s!

If so, that's it or me. I've had some hope and trust in O thus far - but this would be game over for me. I could probably put it another way if you'd like.
