Heading into spring practice, SportingNews.com released their annual list of top 10 programs in college football and LSU was the highest ranked SEC team on the list at No. 4.

Top 10 College Football Programs:
1. Ohio State Buckeyes
2. Texas Longhorns
3. USC Trojans
4. LSU Tigers
5. Florida Gators
6. Michigan Wolverines
7. Alabama Crimson Tide
8. Florida State Seminoles
9. Oregon Ducks
10. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
quote:

No. 4 LSU Tigers:

No other program in college football has been depleted by early entries to the NFL (17 in last two years alone), and still continued to play at such a high level. That’s a credit to not only coach Les Miles and his staff, but to the program’s ability to attract players with the foundation in place. There’s no better stadium in college football, and the state of Louisiana is wildly underrated for high school talent.

We can argue about this all we want but one thing is certain beyond the shadow of a doubt: "There’s no better stadium in college football."

@DoubleDown I would rather LSU go 0-12 than support Alabama.

@BayouBengal99 - ha! Bama has had a few spurts of down years but Bama has been a dominant Bama since the 1940's.

I believe it's LSU that has been the more recent to find success. You guys were shite pre-2000's so calm the frick down, child.

Well this list defnately was not all compiled around recent winning. LSU, FLA, USC, MICH....all have taken a step back in recent years. Bama is strictly a winner due to Saban's arrival. It's been consistent recently, but again, just recently. Bama is not a program, it's a coach. Without Saban there is no program. There's no culture. All these teams in the top have kept a rich tradition regardless of coach and winning. It's an opinion, so I take it for that, and I think I get the factors.

Stfu bama grad.... LSU has sustained dominance far longer than bama almost a decade longer and with QB issues and early departures and the media tricks for bama and the SEC favoritism, refs ect. LSU has still stood toe to toe with bama. Take away these advantages and put us on even ground we would stomp bama and looks like this guy knows it. The SEC knows it and so do the fans of that horrible place. LSU built the SEC into the power it is. Saban is nervous and so is the SEC offices (sanctions) with the new blood in BR and the arm it now has to reach out with. Recruiting has just risen at LSU and DBU is strong as ever. Add a good QB and a great linebacker and Dline coach that can recruit nationally with the best of them and you have nervous nellies in t town. Love it and Go Tigers!!! We coming beyter stick us head in the dirt or just watch bc there is nothing including sanctions gonna stop this Train.

Obviously the Sporting News hates Alabama.

Yeah I hate Bama with the rest of 'em, but us ahead of Bama shoots this list right in the peepee. If they want to make some argument about our fertile recruiting ground, that's fine. But I haven't seen any other teams in the West struggle to recruit over the past several years (including plucking some of our prime talent). Home state advantage for blue chip prospects doesn't mean jack. These kids all have a much more "national" perspective (social media, relative ease of travel, etc).

tide06 "Louisiana has 'slightly' better in-state talent than Alabama."
"SLIGHTLY better ????????" Louisiana, per capita, has the best high school football talent in America year in year out. Our high school talent far outclasses that of Alabama. What was the first recruiting trip Saban took as Alabmaa coach? To West Monroe, Louisiana..........

The writer bounces around from facilities to in-state recruiting to coaching ability and finally to traditions. Looks like he just threw it together to appease his readers in the major markets.

Is this a horribly failed attempt at making an easiest places to win in college football list maybe?

In that case its just recruiting base, facilities, program support, TV money, history and in-state competition. With that criteria Georgia makes the list over someone, maybe even top 5 at this point.

As far as LSU over Bama the only way I can see it argued for LSU is that there is slightly better in-state talent in Louisiana and you don't have Auburn fighting you for it. Still probably give Bama the edge but its close.

I usually ignore these kinds of lists but I just can't even wrap my head around what they are going for here...

I love LSU and hate 'bama but this list lost all credibility by putting us above them.
