New WR Coach Mickey Joseph Says Not To Worry About An LSU-New Orleans Boycott
by TD Staff Reporter
February 8, 201729 Comments
SECCountry.com reported Tuesday that New Orleans high school coaches were planning to meet this week to discuss a "boycott" of LSU.
According to the report, the reason for the potential boycott had to do with Ed Orgeron's decision to reassign running back coach Jabbar Juluke, who has coached for many New Orleans area high schools in the past.
Juluke, who was reassigned last Thursday, has already been hired by Texas Tech to be their running back coach. He served as LSU's New Orleans area recruiter over the past year.
On Tuesday night, Ross Dellenger of The Advocate was able to interview newly hired LSU wide receiver coach Mickey Joseph who said there is no boycott.
Joseph, a Marrero native that will recruit the New Orleans area for LSU, has good relationships with many New Orleans high schools and said he has already spoken to several coaches in the area who have assured him 'it’s no boycott.’

Did you hear about a story today regarding a boycott of LSU by New Orleans high school coaches?
"It’s not going to be a boycott. I’ve been having relationships with those guys in the city … .I started recruiting the city of New Orleans in 1999. I know I’m not a big name, what a lot of people have been expecting, but I’ve been in the city since 1999. I have good relationships with these coaches. They’re not going to shut LSU out. They’re not going to shut Mickey Joseph out. They know at the end of the day I do what’s best for the university and what’s best for those kids."
"They know when I do get those kids, I take care of those kids. When I was head coach at Langston, I had 37 kids from New Orleans on my roster. I have a good relationship with the coaches in New Orleans."
"I don’t foresee it being a problem. And it being a boycott …. When I saw it, I was like, ‘Oh, they’re going to boycott?’ I talked to those guys. They assured me, ‘Mickey, it’s no boycott.’"
