LSU head coach Ed Orgeron addressed the media on Wednesday night to wrap up the early signing period and said that offensive line signee Charles Turner will begin his college career in Baton Rouge as a run blocking tight end.

The 6-5, 260-pound prospect played high school football at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL and was rated the No. 4 offensive center in the country, according to ESPN.

LSU struggled with depth at tight end this past year as Jamal Pettigrew (preseason knee injury/surgery) and Thaddeus Moss (lingering foot injury) both missed the entire 2018 regular season. Pettigrew practiced with the team for the first time this season before the Texas A&M game and could return for the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1.

Three-star JUCO tight end T.K. McClendon also signed with the Tigers on Wednesday and will add depth the position in 2019. Both McClendon and Charles are expected to enroll early.

+100000 "I rather him at center" lmfao. Have you been recruiting him for 3 years? Do you know his ability? No, you just watch a fricking youtube clip of his best plays and now you know not only how he translates from HS but also how he can best fill out the team depth chart. L-O-L

So we brought in the number 4 rated center in the country to be a blocking TE? This is about as bad as Les trying to recruit Dak Prescott as a TE. Our offensive staff sucks balls.

I remember that one time when LSU brought in a highly ranked RB and made him a LB. What where they thinking?

Pretty sure they are just telling the kid what he wants to hear. I'm sure they will give him a shot and then explain the depth chart

I believe it might be temporarily until he bulk up and be ready for the OL position. Missouri does this all the time.

I don't like the concept of a run blocking TE. I mean, if you want another guy in there to block, bring in another lineman.

How big is this kid? I’ve seen him listed in the 260’s but have also seen him listed in the 230’s.

A run blocking tight end, so when he’s in, we will run.
