The LSU coaching staff offered Maryland offensive guard Mason Lunsford in the transfer portal on Wednesday as they continue to look for interior depth on the o-line.

Lunsford, a 6-7, 305-prospect from Olney, Maryland started in 25 games over the last two seasons for the Terrapins. He will have two years of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer.

Would be great for depth, which we desperately need. Has played inside and has the frame to play outside if needed. We have a great returning top 5-7, but a pretty big drop off after that. Love to have this guy for experienced depth in case of injury.

Why is it some don't like the transfer portal?

Because its unfair to lower tier schools that recruited these players and put a ton of money towards their time all the way from recruiting them time on campus and education at the school. For what? For the player to eventually leave when they prove they are better than originally advertised.
Its forming monopolies and the cream will be at about 10-20 schools if it keeps up.
Not sustainable for growth of the game for all schools in its current form.
I love LSU but do not like NIL even though we do in fact benefit more than most.

I dont like the portal but it is necessary for programs without the insane NIL budgets. Will keep programs in check from throwing insane money at a kid only to have him take it and run.

Maybe because it is ruining the amateurism of the game. It makes it a free agent game where yesterday's loyalty and commitment are voided by the bigger, better school up the road. I loved the grad transfer rule, pay your dues, get your degree and have an opportunity to transfer by doing the right things. Now, its a free for all.

The portal in 2019 is not to be compared with today's free agency. No correlation.

6-7, 305-prospect = could play at 335 easily.

Agreed. Gumbo, crawfish, redbeans and rice should do the trick. He'll gain 30 lbs. just by getting off the plane in BR.
