LSU OC Watch: Florida Atlantic In Talks With Lane Kiffin To Become Head Coach
by TD Staff ReporterDecember 9, 2016

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports
Florida Atlantic is in talks with Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin to become their next head coach, according to Football Scoop.
Kiffin has also been linked to the USF job and the offensive coordinator position on LSU's staff. He recently interviewed for the Houston head coaching job but was passed over for Major Applewhite.

Clearly an issue would be economics of the deal. LSU is thought to be offering to make Kiffin one of college football’s highest paid coordinators with a multi-year deal likely to be worth more than $5 million. At FAU, Charlie Partridge made approximately $600,000. Logically, one would think a hire with the name recognition that Lane Kiffin carries would allow FAU to raise additional funds allowing them to get around the $1 million annual mark; but that remains to be seen.

I'm on the Kiffin to LSU as OC bandwagon. Come on Coach O! Make it happen!

Why Kiffin for LSU. Stays 1 season then takes a head job next season at any number of possibilities. Arizona UCLA Notre Dame who knows. He is all about the next head job. LSU can find a great OC who can coach and recruit and will be around for more than 1 season.

Any coordinator that has been a head coach is subject to leave at any time for another HC gig. Helfrich included.

Regardless of the advantageous chess move...Could Florida Atlantic even come close to what he would be paid at LSU as OC? I highly doubt it.

I'm not crazy about Kiffin as OC...but FAU would be a bad move him. LSU OC for two or three years developing another offense would put him in a better position for a Power 5 HC gig. It'll take longer than that to just get FAU to above .500 football IMO. Too many options for FL high school talent better than FAU.

Why would anyone want to coach the turd sandwich that is Florida Atlantic

Not happening brothers. He is doing this out of respect to these University's.

Were not the media saying just two days days ago that Lane was a cougar, the day before Les was the favorite, then Herman was LSU....wait Texas, prior to that no way CEO gets the gig and oh yeah Charlie Strong may keep his job. STFU you half arse sawed off runts. Any idiot with a webpage can call themselves media and post crap. They're credibility is as bad as CNN and the NY Times.

Florida Atlantic??? Very prestigious position.....I think they're in the same conference as Southeast North Carolina State Teacher's College.

Kiffen want to be a HC again. That's a fact. He and Saban hate each other so Kiffen is out of Bama after the bowl game(s). Also a fact. Right now, all of major schools have the HC jobs filled. The next part is just my opinion. Kiffen goes to LSU as OC because A. He gets to stick it to Satan and B. He gets to work with a friend that he trusts in CEO. Also Florida Atlantic won't be able to match LSUs intial offer. Kiffen is the best offensive mind in football and 1Mil a year to be the head guy is way to low for him. On the other hand, 5mil a year to be the OC for the only team that can match Bama athletically. That's hard for anyone to ignore. Its gonna be interesting to see where he ends up and who does LSU turn to if he goes elsewhere.

To much competition for recruits out there. Florida and FSU get the top guys, not to mention teams like LSU and Bama plucking some of the top guys as well. Plus LSUs money is a lot longer than Florida Atlantic.

Oh I get it, Saban has told him to take any job but the LSU job. That's why all these names keep popping up.

Damn Kiff...this speaks of desperation.
Raiders, Tenn, USC...to FAMU
And you lost Layla..
Wow how the arrogant have fallen.

Because the "lateral job move" may pay $2 million and it could be the only option he has. Saban is done with him and wants him gone and the head coaching jobs that may be available will probably not pay as much as the OC at LSU.

Mule..it might not be about the money. He is already rich, bud. He probably want to prove he can Head Coach a program again.

That is so weird because just 15 min ago Austin sports talk said Charlie Strong was close to being named USF head coach
