No. 11 LSU (9-3) will face undefeated No. 8 UCF (12-0) in the 2019 PlayStation Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, AZ on New Year's Day. Kickoff is set for noon CT (11 a.m. local).

The matchup will be the first-ever meeting between the programs and LSU's first appearance in the Fiesta Bowl. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

“What an honor for our football team,” LSU head coach Ed Orgeron said on Sunday afternoon. “Our team deserved the very best reward at the end of the season that was possible. We feel that we got that with a chance to play in the Fiesta Bowl. What a prestigious matchup on New Year’s Day in a New Year’s Six Bowl against UCF.

“It’s a reward for our young men that worked very hard. I thought we had a good season. These guys started off unknown and had some very big wins throughout the season. This is a great reward for our football team, a very well-deserved New Year’s Day Six Bowl. It’s a great step for the Tigers.”

Last year when I saw Auburn playing against UCF, I thought UCF was going to get demolished. I didn't really watch the game but was astonished with the score. I hope LSU doesn't take UCF lightly.

Can ANYONE explain how Texas beat-out LSU to the Sugar Bowl??
Reply60 months
user avatar
Because the Sugar takes the highest ranked SEC team and the highest ranked Big 12 team... Alabama and Oklahoma are both in the playoff leaving Texas and Georgia as the next-highest ranked teams in their respective conferences.

Because we lost to Texas a&m, Georgia, and Florida. Had we beat a&m and Florida we would have been in the Sugar Bowl.

LSU needs win by 20 pts. A win like that would help recruiting.

We will do the College Football world a favor and humble these arrogant Florida boys. Their claim to prominence and bragging rights stems from beating a banged up Auburn team in last year's Peach Bowl... but we are NOT Auburn and we will prove so on New Year's Day in brutal fashion.

Great matchup! Good opportunity for LSU to get publicity in a different region. West coast media market is good for future recruits.

Inside FL, UCF is a big deal. Google the size of their student body.

UCF's rushing defense is weak. Also ESPN interviewed one of their Olinemen and was asked about LSU twice and he changed the subject both times...seemed arrogant.
