Report: Clemson Warns LSU It Could Breach Contract By Playing Former Pro Players

Clemson has reportedly notified LSU that playing Dae'Quan Wright or Zxavian Harris in Saturday night's season opener could violate the contract between the two schools.

According to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, Clemson officials have spent the last several days reviewing the game contract, which includes language requiring both schools to follow NCAA rules.

The warning comes after a Baton Rouge judge granted Wright and Harris a preliminary injunction Thursday, clearing the way for the former Ole Miss players to join LSU despite previously signing with NFL teams.

The SEC has maintained that players who signed professional contracts are not eligible to compete at member schools, but Thursday's ruling prevents the conference from punishing LSU for using Wright or Harris.

Now, Clemson is raising a separate issue outside of the SEC's rules: the contract governing Saturday's game.

According to Dellenger, Clemson has informed LSU that using either player could potentially constitute a breach of that agreement.

In a brief email sent Friday afternoon to LSU's general counsel, Clemson general counsel Chip Hood made it clear that the school intends to travel to Baton Rouge and play in Saturday's season opener, but he addresses "certain eligibility" issues that may break "contractual obligations between the two parties." The obligations are "not relieved by the ongoing disputes," according to the email, obtained by Yahoo Sports.

The university is not seeking financial damages or in no way suggests filing legally against LSU. However, Clemson emphasizes that it "supports the position of the NCAA and our conferences regarding the eligibility of professional athletes returning to play college sports."
